✈ cacciatore's diner

Conner grew up in two summer climates— Connecticut summers that felt like early fall, with some leaves already starting to turn and crisp nights. Or, the perpetually warm, always gorgeous, laissez-faire summers of the south of France. Ivory falls was somehow neither, for it was always some shade of grey hung above their heads. Though it did set the right backdrop for the imposing gothic architecture of campus.
A little ways off campus was the small town that serviced the school. What once held mcdonald’s and mom and pop’s style places was overrun with vegan lunch spots, instagram worthy brunch spots and the last of the little diners that had killer burgers. Though Conner could fake veganism at the prospect of getting into some girl’s pants, he enjoyed burgers far too much to give ‘em up forever. As always there was a small line formed at the till, everyone loved this place from the freshies trying to meet upperclassmen, to the scholarship kids who couldn’t fathom spending $35 on a bowl of spinach.
Patience was one of the few virtues Conner exemplified, he stood patiently scrolling through his cell phone as the folks in front of him ordered. With no real plans for the night he texted his dealer to see if this lazy august evening could get interesting.
[ delivery guy 📦 ]: $400 half an ounce ⛄. where we meeting?
Fuck. The boy pulled fished his wallet out and flipped it open. He could do that, fuck he could probably go for a whole ounce if he wanted.
[ soup ]: oh fuck ya dude. hyd park in like an hour?
He glanced around at his place in line that had seemingly not moved since he last checked.
With a course of action Conner slipped the phone back into pocket and nodded to no one in particular. He’d never actually visited his drug dealer alone in fear that the cops would tail him or he’d get shot or some other ridiculous situation that purely existed in episodes of crime procedurals. Going out on a limb he turns to the person behind him in line.
“hey uh— do you think you could walk me to hyde park in like 20 minutes? I’ll give you like 50 bucks and pay for your order,” he says, with a sheepish grin. If he was in their shoes, he wouldn’t trust himself either.
