`My childhood was so long ago, my friend. It’s difficult to remember that time of my life. Memories of the past often leave me feeling nostalgic or lonely – sometimes ashamed…’
‘I suppose it was not all bad, however. And indeed – although my childhood was not perfect, I did have happy times. My father struggled, unfortunately, and shielded me from the reality of our great hardship. It wasn’t until I was much older that I realized how hard he worked to put food on our table.’
‘And it was thus when I decided to return such a priceless gift to him – that selflessness and material comfort – using only what talents I had. I set off with two of my closest friends and we three began our rise in the Hero’s Guild.’
‘My talents then are not quite the ones I value now, I’m afraid. I turned my magic against others for money – but it was in service of those who could not fight for themselves. Still.’
‘There’s a moment I remember, which is the memory you’ve asked me to recollect – during this time in which I now consider myself still a child; For I was certainly naive of the true affairs of the world. It was in this moment, when I thought myself so wise and grown and yet so terribly afraid, that I looked upon my friends there in the tavern on the eve of our first adventure and realized that I truly loved them. I was glad that they were by my side, the buzz of excitement in the air – drinking mead and singing loudly with the others there, celebrating. Together.’‘We grew closer over time, through our trials and tribulations. It just made the rest more painful, I think. But, alas, I digress. The moment passed. That was the last pure moment of devotion I secretly shared with them.’
‘And in the end, I am alone.”
