I don’t know if this has been confirmed, however, Blinky has the abilities of corruption (he likes to pull it out when his victim is desperate or on the edge) and entrapping people in the Black and White. What does Grace do with the Black Book? TRAP MOTHERFUCKERs IN THE BLACK AND WHITE!!
Grace is Blinky’s pawn also uhh uhm uhhh somebody write a fic on this of Grace throughout NPMD being forced evil and sinful ideas throughout the musical, slowly losing her mind as she listens to a taunting voice. Then towards the end of npmd, she’s trapped in a nearby room listening to max taunt Peter and Steph.
It’s here we learn the Lords in Black never wanted Peter and Stephanie dead, or a soldier like Max Jagerman. They wanted a sadistic killer who had been force fed too many of the wrong ideas. They wanted a broken team who thought she was doing something for the greater good.
Grace is sitting alone in this room and the ideas and voice are coming back, they’re creeping up through the shadows. They’re whispering her. They’re telling her she knows what she has to do.
But they don’t know what she knows which is Grace is fucking insane. She’d rather die than lose her chastity, her most prized possession, right? So Blinky decides to try his own approach, different to the ones he and his brothers typically liked to use. To barter with a madwoman you use mad logistics. He stops appealing to Grace’s “greater good” thoughts, he starts appealing to a desperation for control. A desperation to know she will be accepted. A desperation to just make it all stop.
There’s a “Let it Out” style moment as Grace’s faith is ripped away from her. She submits. She saves Peter and Steph partly because she wants to, partly because she’s being told it’s the reasonable next step.
Alternatively, in a more twisted form, Grace’s version of God has been Blinky for her entire life. She’s been listening to him for her entire life. This brings new light to her line in the barbecue monologues, where she says “I just wanna make him happy.” Even better, if her family were also disciples to Blinky, the “family” line would also hit.
