in a perfect world (my personal canon)
watson writes his little blog about his adventures with sherlock and james sees it and its fame. he misses his friend. his partner. but he knows things are beyond fixing. they have been for a while.
later sherlock is at a crime scene and the criminal has left him a message only he would be able to find “missed you, -moriarty”
sherlock never shares this note with watson. or their history thats caused this. only shares that the criminal gave him a name. only that they’re up against sherlocks one true intellectual equal. he never tells watson how he knows that. but he ends up being right so does it really matter ?
