i need more people to go insane over 2026 vienna concert jesus christ superstar. btw. this one absolutely gives the 2014 swedish arena version a run for its money in how doomed and gay it is, but it lets both judas and jesus be aware of the narrative, and has them lean into the "we both know how it ends, and we have to see it through, and i'm sorry".
serkan kaya and drew sarich play the judas/jesus relationship like they've been married for years. every time they have a confrontational scene they end up devastated and back in eachother's arms like they know their time is running out. at the end of the last supper fight judas crawls on his knees silently begging for absolution. jesus kisses him on the head like he's already forgiven him. judas goes into the betrayal kiss with a silent nod and heartbroken smile, like he knows what's coming and it's the last tender thing he'll ever do. jesus nods back like he's giving permission. they're married and this is the last time they'll see eachother alive. they're married and they're both confined by the narrative and they're gonna sing it again and again.
also they're on a spaceship, i think, but it's a minor detail. anyway it makes me want to bite things. please go watch it.
