hey, whats your favourite soriel headcannon?
if I have to pick just one... I'll say toriel, sans, papyrus and frisk (and a reluctant flowey) all living together on the surface. it's basic, but it's the entire foundation for how I view their lives post-pacifist :'>
firstly it's potentially canon - if frisk chooses to stay with toriel - as both the 1st anniversary Q&A and the 5th anniversary alarm clock winter dialogue imply that toriel either lives with sans and papyrus or very close to them, and evidently flowey joins the surface at some point. given that sans moves in with toriel in 2 neutral endings (plus papyrus in the version he's alive for), there's no reason they couldn't do so in the pacifist ending too.
and to explain why it's my favourite: please enjoy several smaller headcanons and thoughts that result from it :D
obviously I don't think sans and toriel moving in together is immediately romantic, I imagine they have their own rooms when they first move in and it takes at least a couple years of slow burn before they become a couple. but as time passes and they grow closer, sans spends less and less time in his room until toriel's room just naturally becomes their room
the bros' tradition of sans reading papyrus bedtime stories continues on the surface, often joined by frisk and a lovingly-eavesdropping toriel
think about all the new books toriel gets to read by the fireplace, now with a small round skeleton asleep on her lap like a cat
on clear nights sometimes sans stays up late to look at the real stars, and toriel joins him and points out the constellations she remembers from a lifetime ago ✨
since papyrus implies sans tried baking a butterscotch pie, sans getting to try toriel's recipe for real and her helping improve his baking would be cute 🥧
speaking of cooking: hey remember toby's on-the-spot fanfiction from the 10th anniversary stream about how toriel could teach papyrus to actually cook
I love the idea of toriel and papyrus becoming close friends!! besides that sans and toriel need someone to yell at them when their jokes get out of control, having sans and papyrus around would be great for toriel. getting to raise frisk clearly brings her joy, but even though life is better on the surface, her protective instincts and grief from losing 8 children aren't going to disappear overnight. with the bros around, she can trust them both to look out for frisk and they can help ease her overprotective tendencies and loneliness ❤️🩹
(of course frisk does get into Various Shenanigans under the bros' watch, but that's par for the course where they're involved and toriel is hardly a stranger to shenanigans herself)
dunkle sans is a fandom classic for a reason, frisk dragging sans into caring again and him becoming their lesser dad is too sweet and destroys me forever ❤️
further on the topic of dad sans: sans being flowey's unwanted unofficial stepdad is hilarious and nothing will convince me otherwise. the soulless flower kid who tried to play god now having to live a peaceful domestic life with the 8 year old who pulled him kicking and screaming out of said playing god, his mother who doesn't know he's her long-dead son, the creator of his fanclub in several timelines, and worst of all that smiley trashbag who's now dating his mother is simply incredible. the catastrophic awkwardness of it all is The Point. the potential is unlimited. chef's kiss
