Maybe I'm naive but today I learned that apparently in most homeschooling situations only one parent teaches the kid(s). I always assumed it would be all adults in the household.

Where Do We Take Charge?
When Do We Let Go?
I understand and agree with the concept that children should have more autonomy. That children's wants and needs should be respected, even over the wishes of the parent.
If a 16 year old wants an abortion that should be respected even over the beliefs of the parent.
If a 14 year old wants vaccines over their parents objections they should be able to get them.
If a 12 year old wants to come out as LGBTQIA they should have a safe space even though their parents are homophobic.
If a 10 year old wants to start presenting as the opposite gender they should be respected and be allowed to.
The question though is where do we draw the line? Under what circumstances do we override their wishes? I know that children's rights should be respected but there is a point where we do have to override them. There is a point where they simply do not understand.
This weekend my 3 year old niece wanted to play on the dock in front of her grandparents house. It was not safe and her mom had to keep saying no. Finally when my niece ran down to the dock, her mother picked her up and carried her back to the house. My niece objected loudly but it had to be done. She could have drowned.
So at what point and under what circumstances do the parents have the right and obligation to override their child's wishes? 3 year old? 10 year old? Somewhere in the middle? Issues of safety? That's the rational anti-vaxxers use. When it's a question of morality? That's the rational anti-choice parents use. At what point do the children's wishes take precedence?
Parenting is hard, both as a parent, and as a society.
