The thing about the natural world is that it is always, forever, constantly, decidedly more interesting than anything we could ever make up ourselves
Because our imaginations aren't limitless, they're fundamentally constrained by our experiences and what we learn
Which is based on the world around us, aka the natural world
Which we don't understand fully because so much of it is hidden and gone (extinct) and we are constantly learning new things about it as dozens of scientific papers come out every single fucking day
So anyone's imaginary creations are going to be significantly more limited and mundane because the person creating them is not magically more aware of the natural world than any other person and many are less aware than others
And the very fact that the natural world is REAL, actually fully REAL, makes it inherently more interesting on top of it because these aren't just things our ape brains imagined, they came about via random chance and luck and it leads to the weirdest shit you could ever see
Nothing we can imagine will ever be weirder than the real world because for every pokemon or dragon we design suddenly we discover Jakapil or fucking Hallucigenia
And so this is why it's so frustrating that people won't let go of outdated designs of animals or their misconceptions about the natural world
Never mind it's wrong and usually contributing to hierarchical thinking and the "march of progress" bullshit that doesn't actually exist
But it's just fucking boring
Anyways this is why I never got into Pokemon, despite being born in 1992. How are y'all.
Peregrine Falcon 😊
