[six-improbable-things]

My character got stuck in a cave-in with one of her party members, and the DM asked me if I wanted to make some underground monsters for us to run into. Of course my first thought was of the cave crawlers from the Aurora Comic. (I also made a second monster called the BFW (Big Fucking Worm).)

**This isn't meant to be a 100% recreation. Just vaguely inspired by them and their vibes. (and of course, it needs to actually be mechanically functional in dnd 5e, and also feasible for two level 8 characters to fight on their own.)

Welcome to day 1 of a Monster-a-Day! Decided to start off with a relatively simple creature, an echolocating lava based merfolk with obsidian natural armor. Think Lavasioth but actually smart and a fun creature. While certainly not the strongest creature to throw at the party, it’s a fun idea for a volcanic creature. 

While lesser known than their aquatic counterparts, the Magmerfolk are a race of humanoids covered in shiny, sparkling obsidian from the repeated heating and cooling of the lava that rolls harmlessly off their hides, slowly forming a suit of armor over their red scales and dark skin. Their vestigial eyes can barely see differences in light and dark, and as such they use their vocals to hunt the other magma based creatures. Despite their fireproof hide and warm bodies, their armor shatters quickly to blunt weapons. It is said to hold the heart of the magmerfolk even for a few seconds will keep you warm for the rest of your days, so they are hunted primarily by those in colder regions. 

Little do they know they weren’t being literal.
