Ritual of the Temporary Home
Being at home is a state of mind. When we fill our backpack to take with us, we try to pack the familiar feeling of home with us. What do we pick to bring with us on our travels? How do we decide upon where this feeling comes from? This backpack-to-carpet is a tool that challenges people to think about what they take when keeping the feeling of home in consideration.
Graduation project 2015.
I don't think I could be more pleased with the way the new pack turned out. It weighed in at around 14 ounces. The old Kelty external frame pack clocked in at about 90 ounces. Thats a 4.75 POUND difference! My pack weight for this hike is going to drop quite substantially, which in turn will help me be able to cover more ground and keep my body much less stressed. The new project is going to be to replace my tent. The plan is going to be a homemade 8 x 10 foot silicon impregnated nylon tarp. We're going to add a removable no-see-um mesh to help deal with bugs if they become a problem. Robyn estimated that the finished setup will weight around 16 ounces. Again, quite a change from the old tent - plus using a tarp is going to give me at least double the amount of room compared to the tent. That will be a life saver if I run into sever weather and have to wait out a storm. I would go crazy in a tent that I can't even sit up in.
I custom cut my sleeping pad to double as the back support.
Robyn added this nice custom patch!
