Home Not Home Exhibition at Agitator Gallery

Anysquared’s HOME NOT HOME Exhibit Opening is Saturday June 24 from 6pm–10pm, at Agitator Gallery, 3851 W Fullerton, Chicago. AnySquared’s HOME NOT HOME Exhibition investigates various themes, including: belonging/not belonging, freedom/captivity, safety/danger, comfort/discomfort, inclusive/exclusive, building/destroying, and place/displacement. HOME NOT HOME is an examination of the complicated dichotomies of the idea of home and aims to demonstrate that while the concept of home is universal, the experience is very personal. Thank you to Agitator Artist Collective for making space and collaborating for this first installment of the series. Only two days of work and then it’s weekend. I have had a lot of mixed feelings. It’s fun to see baby EJ again but on the other hand I really didn’t want to go back to work. After my travels, I wish I could have gone home, to Belgium. I wanted to see my family and friends, tell them all about my amazing two weeks and show them the pictures. So going back/ home to Dallas felt weird. It made me a little bit sad and homesick.

Luckily I can cheer myself up by counting down to the end of my stay here. Only 2,5 months to go! That’s not that bad, I think.

Next to that, my host mom’s sister and mom are staying here for a while and they gave me a break on Friday by taking EJ out for a while. 

In the evening I went dancing at Red River. I finally got to use my cowboy boots!

Today I had my last cup of tea at my Mama’s house, with her faithful Jockey at my feet. That dog’s companionship is one of the things that gives me quiet peace in this world. Knowing I leave my mother with his soft soul helps me to rest easier. I’m not going home just yet.
