I'm so sick of all the stigma as stereotypes surrounding homeschoolers/unschoolers. People call us weird and different- as if that's a bad thing. A lot seem to genuinely think that we don't do any school and think we just sit around all day and have fun. I've been told countless times that I'm "lucky" and that I "have it easy". And honestly I'm fucking tired of it. A lot of homeschoolers work their ass off and do just as much- oftentimes more- work as public schoolers do. Colleges actually prefer homeschoolers because they tend to be more adaptable, independent, and work harder. Some homeschoolers are weird, yes. Weird is good. And some people who happen to be homeschooled are a bad weird, yeah. Just like public schoolers can be both a good weird and a bad weird. Wild concept, right? The majority of homeschoolers aren't lazy, like people seem to think. We work hard and we don't have it "easier" than public schoolers just because we're homeschooled. Also, people like to say that the reason some people who are homeschooled are weird or quirky or shy or have mental illnesses is because they're homeschooled- while I'm sure a few people are shy because they've been homeschooled (stereotypes usually come from somewhere) 99.9% aren't. I personally have anxiety and depression and possibly OCD and my issues started before I was homeschooled, when I was bullied in second grade. Demi Lovato was bullied in public school and was homeschooled as a result- but people don't make fun of her. All the ignorance people hold towards anyone who isn't in public school and therefore "normal" by society's standards is ridiculous and I hope someone fucking does something about it.
