Home to me has never been a person. It has never been a place either. Home has always been a feeling of comfort with myself. With who I am, where I am and how I am. I'm rarely ever home but for the brief period I am, it's the best place to be.

roots so deep

My soul finds comfort in such spaces, these wide-open spaces

Between where I’ve been and where I am now.

My childhood is founded upon this little house beside the lake;

My roots here go as deep as the trees buried within the ground.

 I’m cozied up in my favorite hydabed beside the piano, snuggled up in my mom’s old college sweatshirt.

I reside beside the fire, allowing myself to get lost in the flames-

Reigniting the spark of old memories again.

And suddenly, its like I’m a little girl- safe, intact, untouched.

Surrounded by cousins, aunts and uncles, and all those I love-

And all who love me, too.

 I don’t know why seasons change, or how we fell so far.

But there’s something so comforting in knowing that

even when everything around me changes,

This place stays the same.
