My hands hurt so much from drawing dumb kids
HAPPY 4/13!! Here’s a Terezi because she deserved better and more love-
quick thing for 4/13!!
Something else dumb on the Jack track (howdy, I'm that anon who said Jack sucked on both the villain/redemption side of things, and your header inspired this thought): Its weird how some people were like "oh there's so much more potential in Jack living than Slick", and then the two things I've seen from people who didn't just ignore him were "he's a janitor/nobody that nobody cares about despite the fact that he's in history books as a mass murdering asshole" or "dollar store Slick".
...Man, am I glad I've never seen someone like that. All things comsidered, I'm pretty new to the Homestuck scene, so I never saw people say that.
But what in the hell makes people make up shit like this? The two Jacks have very little development (and I like it that way) but the one with more characterization you think deserves to die!? That doesn't make sense from both a lobotomized reader standpoint and a narratively conscious one. Jack dying would have given Collide more plot use than "the flash where condy dies". It could symbolize the old troubles being over and the betas moving into a new world without worrying about him. It could literally just be We Won Against The Big Bad Evil Guy. But it's none of em.
And Slick dying ughhh that speaks for itself. He never got to kill Lord English yeah sure, but he never even got to get closure with his crew, or even Karkat for gods sake. Imagine how hs2 would have played out if Slick lived! There are some opportunities there for sure, far more than Jack has just rotting in prison because his character has stagnated.
Both Jack and Slick are great examples of how to make a character an extremely valuable asset, but in different ways. Jack's usefulness had run out, but Slick still had hundreds of pages left in him before he kicked the metaphorical bucket.
Its disappointing. Not only the fact that it happened, but how few people seemed to care and realize the gravity of that choice. They either considered Jack and Slick to be the same, or somehow thought that Jack deserved to live more than Slick. Its just frustrating all around.
