Honest Me
Hello everyone! I’m gonna start off by introducing myself. For starters, my name is Lily. Now, bare with me. I’ve never made a blog before so I’m still learning this whole thing.
I really want to make this blog about total honesty. Now, as you get to know me, you’ll come to learn that I’m BIG on honesty and truth. Without it, you can face several challenges in situations that could have been totally avoidable.
So here’s the thing, being honest doesn't always make you a shitty person. And a lot of people don't realize that. I’m a totally blunt person. I call it like I see it. You can either take the honest truth I give and turn it into something for yourself, or you can throw it out the window and never speak to me again. And it wont hurt me a bit on what you decide. Why? Because I did what I thought was right, and that was being honest. I wont ever come off as rude to you, unless you’re rude first. Then its game on.
How I treat people is really honest. “How do you treat people honestly?” Well I’m glad you asked! I’ll tell ya. Depending on how you come off to me is how I will act towards you. I will treat you with the upmost respect and act like I’ve known you my whole damn life. OR I can act like you’re my worst enemy and would wish nothing more than for you to stomp on a Lego.
That's another thing. IM KIND. I don't wish death upon anyone. Not even my Ex Fiancé or the girl(s) he cheated on me with (that's a story for later). I don't wish failure on anyone. As a matter of fact, I wish everyone success and joy in life. Why? Because life SUCKS. Its a big ball of “ FUCK YOU” served with a side of “KILL ME PLEASE” on a lovely plate of “WHY DID I WISH I WAS GROWN WHEN I WAS LITTLE!?”
So all you high schoolers out there who have things handed to them and think life is rough right now, just wait. You’ll graduate and you wont really talk to your friends anymore, if at all. You wont have someone to hold your hand and help explain things to you. Better start making your own doctors appointments, you cant live with mom and/or dad forever.
Life after high school is confusing. I’ve only been out for a year and you know what I’ve done? I broke up with my fiancé, moved back in with my parents, got a job that lasted a month, fell down a flight of stairs, fucked up my ankle, joined the Marines, quit my training on training day 20 and was discharged for failure to adapt and depression, came home, and just now started a new job at Kroger where I package meats and seafood and restock the shelves. SO, life is confusing. For the LONGEST time I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, but now I think I do. Unfortunately for me though, I had to go through some type of complete and utter hell and heartbreak to figure it out. So I’m pretty happy to say that I plan on starting classes in August, majoring in Forensic Science and getting into criminal investigation.
I’m going to say this once, and please please please believe me when I say this. Okay? Okay, here it goes. IT IS 10395748968947509123019741358658746091827549132% OKAY FOR YOU TO NOT HAVE A CLUE ON WHAT YOU WANT TO DO OUTSIDE OF HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!!!!! You will figure out what your passion is and you will follow your dream eventually. My advice? Don't sit on your ass and do nothing and expect it to just come to you. Get out! Go try something new! Go meet someone new! Go observe your surroundings! It’ll come to you! Dont give up on yourself when you haven’t e even started. You’re just now learning about yourself. Grow! Blossom! And most importantly.....BE HONEST!!!
That's all for now. Ill write some more soon! Goodnight everyone!
~*~Lily~*~

Dear reader, If I asked you how are you? You’d maybe answer I’m okay. Before you answer you will weigh the weight of the answer, and I’m here to tell you about the days before I got to really grow into who I am. I am human, struggling with self acceptance is a journey I went through Hold onto my words, let me walk you through . . . I have fought hard to become the person I am now,…

Honest Truths #1
Think of a great singer. Chances are, you thought of a) Beyoncé b) Freddie Mercury or c) some indie artist who is so amazing omg. But the point is, no one probably thought of Bob Dylan.
That's because Bob Dylan is a conundrum.
Nine times out of ten, you ask someone their opinion of him, they'll say "Great lyrics but I can't stand his voice." And most people, except for the one tenth who is a fan of both the voice and the lyrics (myself included), would agree with that. Everyone says his voice is too out there, that it sounds like he's talking through cotton or he's mumbling or too nasally, too this or that, but the truth is, is that his voice is just that, a voice.
Now, if you asked the same of people about Bon Iver, you'd get the reverse, nine tenths saying that they love him for both lyrics and voice and one tenth saying just lyrics. And I would agree with them too, I love his voice and his lyrics. But if you look at it, some of the same criticisms can be applied. To me it sounds like he's talking through his lips. That he does mumble and he doesn't sound like the 'typical' good singer. But how can so many people like Bon Iver while Bob Dylan is left out in the cold? Both use a minimalistic style, both are lauded for their lyrics and loved for one rather popular song ("Skinny Love" and "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", respectively).
Consider Nick Cave, of the Bad Seeds, a relatively unknown man, probably best known for the songs used in movies ("Red Right Hand" in both Scream and Hellboy, if memory serves, and more popularly, "O Children" in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part One). Everyone loved those songs for the mood they set the scene, they were perfect. And yet most people wouldn't even think to correlate those songs with other ones from his numerous albums because they 'don't like the singer.' (Consequentially, Lyre of Orpheus is a Fantastic album by Nick Cave, very bluesy and murky in a swampy way)
You could apply this to a lot of alternative singers who are getting popular in the mainstream, Walk the Moon, Cage the Elephant, Grouplove; all bands who don't have singers you wouldn't consider traditional. My mom has even said she can't understand them half the time, and she is about as baseline as you can get for musical appreciation, yet she loves the songs, sings along. It's a weird sight.
So I guess the honest truth of this is that how good a singer is, depends on who's listening, the popularity of the song and what year it is.
