// Now Or Most. The marshmallow experiment brought a kid into a room and sat him down at a table with 1 marshmallow. The kid was told if he could wait for a while he could get 2 marshmallows instead of just one. // The Ideal. The ideal man... meaning the ideal hu-man. But what does dignity and grace even mean? These are words few people use and fewer still understand. Dignity comes from the Latin root, dignus... meaning worthy. Aristotle is telling us to behave as if we are worthy of honor or respect, even when "shit happens" and the world hurls its irrational and unwarranted circumstances at us. We who live with dignity can never afford to lower ourselves to meet the evil of the day. We are charged to rise above and hold the line on a high level of self control and restraint. But... We're talking monkeys. And when we're hurt, the monkey mind takes over and we get an urge to lash out and hurt back. That's why Aristotle included grace. Grace is the light and love we give to those who don't deserve it or who haven't earned it. It's a "merit-less" act. You or I, we can never give or receive too much grace because nothing we do will ever entitle us to have it, and nothing done against use will entitle us to withhold it. Think about that one. How strong must your character be to achieve that level of zen. I admit... I'm not there. I'm not sure I know anyone who is. Strength of this magnitude is Aristotle's ideal. // Bro Sesh. Movement may well be medicine... it is a necessary in human progress. But so is enjoying life. In the Crossfit world, we don't program Bench Press too often, but when we do it takes me back to the old school Gold's Gym days being a teenager and not knowing anything about lifting. My buddy, Scott, and I used to go into Gold's after looking at the pictures in a Muscle & Fitness magazine and bro out on the Bench and Squat a little. Then we'd pump out our chests and anytime we came up to a door jamb, we'd turn 90 degrees and walk through sideways as if we were so stole we couldn't fit if we walked straight through. Haha! // Motion. Even thousands of years ago when Plato walked the earth the importance of movement was known. It's funny really. To look around the world and see how much the ancients knew and practiced... yet could not confirm with science. In fact, much of today's science simply verifies the ancient observations.
