How lucky was I to get this shot!?! Walking on the beach yesterday, this hooded plover, an endangered species that nests in the sand here (where cars drive!), was walking on the beach. As I went to take a photo, it flew off. Not far as it was guarding/circling the area where dogs were sniffing around. Death of a Hooded Plover

The bird shown here is very ill and subsequently dies. Autopsies await, but there has been a worrying number of adult deaths over the last few years, and five in the last week or so. Deakin Veterinarian Rod Collins has been helping BirdLife Australia try to unravel this gruesome mystery. We will report any updates.
