i’m not religious, never have been.
BUT YOU BET YOUR ASS I WAS PRAYING LAST NIGHT—TO ALL THE GODS THERE EVER WERE—FOR HORIKOSHI TO MAKE BKDK CANON
Okay! I saw it! Let's talk about it!
AHHHH! It was so good! It was ALMOST everything I wanted. There were a couple moments I felt like Bones was trying to minimize the gravity of this apology. Specifically, the lack of transition of Izuku's eyes.
When Katsuki first confronts Izuku, and starts at the beginning of their story (them being shown as young children) Izuku's eyes are completely void.
As Izuku begins to realize what's happening (when they reach their middle school timeline) we see his eyes coming back.
By their high school timeline he looks stunned and his eyes are lightening and becoming wider.
As he hears his name, his eyes have come back entirely.
By the end, his eyes are clear, present, his pupils are blown wide and light has finally returned them.
In the manga Horikoshi very intentionally shows Izuku's eyes becoming lighter and more present with every line that Katsuki says. Almost as if, Katsuki is slowly bringing Izuku back to life. Bones opted to leave those details out and that super sucks. This scene is so beautiful and powerful because even though it is BAKUGO'S moment, it's HIS apology that he's been agonizing over for months, it's still equally about both of them. It's still their give and take. It's so /them/ meeting each other where they're at, no matter what, and filling a role for each other that no one else could possibly fill. And by removing Izuku's part in that, you miss the full impact.
BUT it would be wrong of me not to acknowledge all the wonderful things Bones DID do in the episode. The rest of the animation was genuinely stunning. And Okamoto did an amazing job of bringing Katsuki's words to life. He made him so soft and I will forever be grateful for his portrayal. At first I was a bit upset he didn't do the pause indicated in the manga before saying Izuku's name but honestly...I like the change. I like that Katsuki says "Izuku" so confidently and without reserve. Because he knows he can. And he knows Izuku will accept it despite the fact that he probably shouldn't. It was a very nice change.
I loved that we got more shojo glow throughout, I also loved how they handled Katsuki's catch scene and Izuku finally feeling safe enough to sleep. That wasn't in the manga people! The catch was, yes, but NOT the panning in on Izuku's face as he relaxes into Katsuki's arms and falling asleep! That was a nice bonus touch that [not completely] helps balance out the loss of the eyes animation.
Overall, the handling of chapter 322 was done with a care I can appreciate. I can't wait to see how they handle our boys next big scene. 💚🧡
With bnha ending in like 5 chapters I’d like to put my delusional request out there, come here horikoshi

I want to see the hassaikai again
LISTEN I KNOW. THEYRE BAD
I am a hassaiaki LOVER but not defender it is on SIGHT for you 11 mother fuckers but I miss said 11 mother fuckers (okay except Mimic, Tabe and Rikiya you three can STAY gone.)
Just simple stuff, like just one little panel during some narration show me like chrono and nemoto playing shogi in prison (I think chrono, nemoto and mimic are in one prison, Hojo, Setsuno and Tabe in another??don’t quote me some of them are still together though it’s in the analysis book), show me deidoro making toilet wine, show me Rappa teaching the other prisoners how to fight, show me Tengai meditating with the other prisoners, just show me overhaul period. I just MISS THEM.
I also have just a lot of questions about a LOT of the Hassaikai I won’t get answered (What made Nemoto go from being a con man to valuing truth above all else? What kind of cons did he run? Does he wear his glasses under his mask? What made tengai stop being a monk? I still FIRMLY believe pops and chrono are related. Also in the analysis book it says Rikiya started out as Overhaul’s younger brother like figure like EXCUSE ME??? WHY WASNT THIS ELABORATED ON??) I’ve accepted that but I just wanna see their pretty little faces again. Also chrono was ranked 28 in the latest popularity poll show HIM TO ME.
When will erasermic return from the war....
Chisaki: Take me to my boss! He’s all I have left…
Hari “Anything for Kai!” “Childhood best friend” Kurono, rotting in jail for him:
My hero academia.
I still remember the first time I watched the show back then when the illegal streaming sites weren’t that popular or barely existed and I couldn’t bring myself to buying an actual subscription because I was in denial when it came to my interest in Anime; in-fact: Mha was one of my firsts. I remember the episodes being in a small box with the person of uploaded the episode’s watermark surrounding the screen it was a rough time to be honest but I enjoyed watching.
I remember me and my friends being hyped up while waiting for each and every episode or manga chapter to release. I remember buying my first volume and reading it shamelessly in school and I made a best friend out of it and we’re still friends until now, I bonded with a whole group of people over it and we’re still in contact and that’s amazing.
Mha played a big part in my life, it helped me even during an addiction I used to have and it also had a big influence on my art.
The impact of seeing the characters on the screen or physically on a paper was truly phenomenal, even if it is or was weird. The personality of each and every character stabbed me in a metaphorical way and left the wound unhealed and I’m grateful for that. Seeing the end of this series really feels unreal after all these years, the fanbase shifting and it reviving then going back down again. I actually cried.
The real message of my hero academia was showing the mistreatment of society to certain groups of people and I really love that, Horikoshi wrote it in a way nobody else could and I’ll always admire him for that.
Thank you Horikoshi for changing my life really, and I hope you can take a well deserved break now.
