Guess who bucked me off agaaaaaain...
Kory was doing so well. We slowed down; lunging before every ride, I took the time to really perfect how he stands at the mounting block, we took baby steps in every session. Then today the trainer was pushing me to really get him to bend off my leg at the canter (I’d been pretty casual about the shape as long as he’d turn and stop when asked), and he got to that “overwhelmed” point and suddenly exploded. My bucking-handle kept me on for about the first four he threw, but he finally shook me loose. I just barely missed hitting the wall and landed hard on my arm. Sprained wrist, but not too bad.
The trainer called his owner, and we won’t be riding him anymore. I’ll keep lunging him regularly for now, but in a couple weeks a buyer is coming to check him out as a potential driving horse. If that doesn’t work out he’ll be sent to a horse dealer in VA who thinks they can turn him around.
I’ll be sad to see him go, I like the little guy. And Tesoro will be losing his favorite turnout buddy. But it’s for the best... his owner will never be able to trust him enough to ride him at this point, so it’s best she find a better match.
That was the strangest thing ever! Jack Pinkney and his horse RAPHAEL straight up went into a wall on the course...
Jack had broken one rein earlier - as you can see there in a picture I took maybe 30 seconds before their accident :
Meaning he had control and/or direction issues, and that can't be good on a 5* XC course. IMO he should have retired based on the safety issue.
Pinkney's reaction after the fall was as unsportsmanlike as possible, throwing both whips and jacket away in anger... a volunteer told us he later burst into tears while in the truck transporting his horse to the clinic for examination, so i guess the emotions came back to him at this moment.

Before and after 😂
My coworker and I took the baby horses out for a first hack. Tesoro, bless his pure and innocent heart, went to sidestep around some mud and my knee wedges neatly between a large fence post and the attached boards. Both leg and stirrup stayed stuck when he scooted away and off I went. Also somehow in the tangle of landing my ankle got stepped on. Neat.
Got back on and the rest of the hack was fine, but as soon as I took off my boot my leg inflated pretty quickly. Limping like a boss today, so I’ve been instructed to ice, elevate, and stay horizontal so it can heal up. I have a marathon on two weeks after all 😩
