That was the strangest thing ever! Jack Pinkney and his horse RAPHAEL straight up went into a wall on the course...
Jack had broken one rein earlier - as you can see there in a picture I took maybe 30 seconds before their accident :
Meaning he had control and/or direction issues, and that can't be good on a 5* XC course. IMO he should have retired based on the safety issue.
Pinkney's reaction after the fall was as unsportsmanlike as possible, throwing both whips and jacket away in anger... a volunteer told us he later burst into tears while in the truck transporting his horse to the clinic for examination, so i guess the emotions came back to him at this moment.
