Christian Weier and GLOBAL in the speed round
āI try to ride him like a horse that has two eyes,ā said Christian Weier. āHe jumps better than most horses with two eyes, so he gives me a lot of confidence. I donāt think about his eye. It can make a difference in a jump-off maybe, but in a course like this it doesnāt really affect him. The problems we had today had nothing to do with his one eye. I donāt know how he handles it, but horses have this capacity [to persevere].ā
Global lost his eye in a stable accident shortly after Weier got him as a 5-year-old. A splinter entered his eye and despite treatment, the gelding developed an infection, and removing the eye was their only option.
āI do it as an amateur, and I stick to my horses; I donāt have an option,ā said Weier, who is riding as an individual for Luxembourg. āI think he probably wouldnāt have made it in another stable, but heās really tough, and heās really my partner, and weāve done great things. Weāve grown together, and I think heās just made things possible for me that I wouldnāt be able to do otherwise.ā
Weier spends his days running his landscape architecture company during the day and rides in the evenings and on the weekends. Despite his limited show schedule, heās shown in four FEI European Championships in his career.
āIām proud, and I think Iām in a unique situation also that I can come here and do the championships,ā said Weier, 41. āI did the European Championships, and thatās really for me the only opportunity to show what Iām able to do because on a regular basis I donāt get to the big shows. I do two- or three-star level shows mostly, but itās easy for him.ā
āFor me, itās really nice to be able to show that I can do it here also, and he did a clear round yesterday. I think today was not terrible; it was not what I was hoping for, but I think at this level you see it today thereās a lot of faults, and I think itās fair enough. I can live with it. Iām not happy, but Iāll accept it.ā

Just a heads up, anyone sharing pics/vid of the grooms accommodation at WEG please make sure that no one is named or tagged as sharing the footage. The federation are sending threatening messages and taking away accreditation. Itās a shambles.

I had a great time being a spectator yesterday at WEG, it was nice to be in the stands instead of behind the scenes as a volunteer (although that has been super cool in its own way!). It was miserably hot, but I got some great photos and felt really close to the action!
WEG2018 Cross Country
I'm watching the WEG eventing stadium jumping and I think it's hella interesting how D. Schauly (FRA) rode in a dressage double bridle and with such light hands too! Very confident clear round. I've never seen anyone but Michi ride any kind of jumping with a normal double, two pairs of reins, no flash, no martingale.
Can anybody explain what the heck is going on with this statue at WEG?! One horse attacking another horse isn't exactly uplifting... šµ #art? #weg2018 #weg2018tryonusa https://www.instagram.com/p/BnovT1KFRti/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1b57aowisb6to
