I had a dream last night that I was browsing an image board of some sort and I saw this image of a horse that looked like Abraham Lincoln, like, it had a hat and a beard, so I clicked on it but it redirected to this image of Dr doofenshmirtz, and like, apparently it had a 1/10000 chance of doing that for some reason? Idk

hi everyone. given uma musume fever, and inspired by indonesia which has shown up big for their horse racing because of the game, i was inspired to research my home country's famous racehorses!! so here's some canadian horses. please enjoy

(get ready a lot of horses were born in oshawa and a LOT of em are related to northern dancer)

Northern Dancer - a mile racer born in oshawa, ON, he was the first canadian-born horse to win the kentucky derby. he was also a successful sire of sires, with his bloodline extending to many japanese racehorses, including maruzensky, rice shower, haru urara, biwa hiyahide, narita brian, and more!

Nijinsky - a stayer born in oshawa as a son of northern dancer, nijinsky was bought by an american and sent to train and compete in ireland. when he won the english triple crown, he was the first horse to do it in 35 years. just like his pappy, he was a stud, and is the sire of maruzensky and the grandsire of winning ticket and rice shower.

The Minstrel - a stayer born in oshawa as another son of northern dancer, he went undefeated in his two year old season and was named horse of the year in the UK and ireland in 1977.

Dance Smartly - a sprinter born in milton, ON with her grandfather being (you guessed it) northern dancer, she was the first filly EVER to officially win the canadian triple crown. she was also the first canadian-born horse to win the breeders' cup in kentucky.

La Prevoyante - a sprinter born in ontario as the daughter of arctic dancer (northern dancer's full sister (you cannot escape him)), she was trained by hall of fame trainer yonnie starr. she went undefeated in her two year old season, and won the quebec derby.

Starship Jubilee - a mile runner born in florida and moving to etobicoke, ON as a four year old, she won three stakes in 2019 and was the champion female turf horse in 2017, 2018, and 2019. now she's a broodmare and has one son and one daughter :)

Afleet - a mile racer from toronto, he won the G1 jerome handicap and the G2 pennsylvania derby, as well as multiple canadian stakes. he went to japan to stay at breeders' stallion station in 1990, and shared the stables with stay gold, grass wonder, air shakur, nakayama festa, and jungle pocket before his passing.

Sunny's Halo - a mile racer from oshawa, he was a son of the famous sire halo (sire of sunday silence). he's the only canadian horse to win the kentucky derby besides northern dancer, and cinched wins in the G1 super derby and G1 arkansas derby.

Silken Cat - a sprinter born in neuville, QC, she won her debut race by eight lengths. her 2nd race she won by 14 lengths, and her 3rd by three lengths. (to my frustration) she was retired as a racehorse after this, and birthed 11 successful foals who sold for a collective $8 million. her eulogy stated that she loved people, peppermints, and carrots :)

Izvestia - a mile racer born in king township, ON, he was nicknamed izzy. when he was born, the farm owner said he was "one of the the smallest, worst-looking, pathetic foals we ever had". at his debut race, another horse kicked the wall, which scared him. he fell and hurt himself, and his team was worried he might not be able to compete; he then won the race by six lengths. he easily won the 1990 canadian triple crown, then demolished the G2 molson export million three weeks later. he passed away during the 1991 canadian international stakes when he fell and broke his leg in three places.

(i like to think of him as the canadian golshi. this horse was clearly just fucking around for the love of the game. also, maybe obviously, my favourite.)

Eternal Search - a sprinter born in toronto, she got 15 stakes wins in her career. she was the canadian champion sprint horse in '81 and the canadian champion older female horse in '82 and '83. she was a broodmare of broodmares, with many successful grandchildren.
