I'd already watched a couple of episodes at the recommendation of Deo, but finally decided to just sit down and go through the whole thing after Candy suggested it. I was intrigued by the mysteries and was curious about how the show would progress with that as the hook. I was somewhat disappointed that the mysterious themselves became more... pointless halfway through, but the process of solving it was always top notch.
I'm not sure how Hotaro became endeared to me, but I both love and am infuriated by him. XD
His dedication to not using energy is astounding, and how he slowly grows to "considering" using more energy was much appreciated. It's definitely different from your usual detective type of show.
It's cute that instead of the MCs insatiable need to solve a mystery, it's actually centered around Eru's "I have to know!" after she encounters a new curiosity, no matter how small. This eventually develops into Hotaro's own curious nature, which I really like because in other detective stories, it's always this unknown, supernaturally powerful nature that usually drives the detective, but here it's not. Hotaro is good at solving the mystery, but he doesn't inherently want to since he's an "energy conservationist". XD
Anyway, while not completely in love with this anime compared to others, I'm likely to watch it again because of how thoroughly they solve the mystery. It goes over every possibility, multiple approaches, and things that can easily be looked over, and I'd very much like to be able to emulate that when writing my own mysteries. Like I said, top notch.
Highly recommend to others if you're interested in those kind of technical processes yourself.
