Alicent lightning a candle for Lucerys is so incredibly obscene, we’ve already discussed this, but she was gonna kill him in episode 7, no matter if it was a heat of the moment thing or if she “just” wanted to maim him, she’s wanted the Velaryon boys exiled or dead since they were born, now that she’s finally gotten what she wanted, she’s making herself the victim AGAIN.

I don't plan on watching this coming season--that clip, the recent racism against Alyn Velaryon's actor going unchecked or un-criticized by HBO or the other actors turned me off, both on top of what I know is just going to be more stupid ass writing--but yeah. This really is breathtaking...the nerve and the "sincere" self abjection to get brownie points is frustrating to deal with.

SO THE FIRST TIME WE HEAR “KINSLAYER” ON THE SHOW IT’S FOR RHAENYRA AND NOT FUCK ASS AEMOND ???

First time I'm hearing of it. Yeah this just doesn't make any sense even for sexist Westeros, bc everyone knows that Lucerys was killed first and even with bastards there's a kinslaying issue...bc it's still your blood. Kinslaying is not a class-exclusive taboo, peasants are beholden to the same rule. Part of it is that this show makes it a lot more open in its in-world's populace/court's impression that Rhaenyra's boys were "obviously" not Laenor's, whereas you can have a whole debate even on this if you just read the book where Rhaenys comes from dark haired Baratheons and she herself had dark hair. Several Targs also deviated from the "typical" look; two of them Alysaa and Alysanne.

It's obvious that the show oversimplified much for the sake of putting a lot more against Rhaenyra than there factually was.

Sorry but Jace would NEVER call his mother a “fool” 🤭

In that deleted scene that someone showed the script of, Jace doesn't call Rhaenyra a fool nor does he refer to her as "Rhaenyra" as if she is his peer but he does (and rightly) try to get her to buck up by comparing her inaction to Daemon's attempts to protect her kids...this show is ridiculous. Thank god it was scrapped, we have enough with what we got.

Can people stop talking about how book!Rhaenyra would react ‘fiercely’ ? This is abuse we’re talking about here, there is no perfect/right way for a woman to react to her husband being abusive. It feels like some fans are condemning show!Rhaenyra for not reacting how they want.

So, in almost all cases, yes. But, as @rhaenin-time explains in this reblog of my ask, the issue is about the punishment for Rhaenyra choosing Daemon and choosing to excercise her power & without it "hiding that choice behind patriarchal power", or for Daemon's sake/borrowing his power so she can have access to more. As Alicent does (not a thing that morally condemns Alicent, but it's simply not the kind of power Rhaenyra wields and decides to use, similarly to how men feel only men should in this world).

The thing here is that "when (some, I grant) people say that, they mean not that there was a "right" way for abuse victims to react but that there was little chance of abuse happening b/t bk!Dameyra because that was never their shtick or in the realm of likelihood for this particular couple in the first place. So HotD is purely doing it to discourage support for Rhaenyra and subscribe more to this "both teams are bad" oversimplification of the Dance. Domestic abuse (kataraavatara said over at tikTok) isn't being used to highlight the travails of domestic abuse victims so much as what I say about "both sides". which is gross and unnecessary and has terrible implications about the equalization of an abused women to a rapist/reduction of abuse AND rape.

So basically throughout the entire course of this show, Rhaenyra is supposed to suffer mental and physical abuse from EVERYONE except her children and then also have to deal with all of her children dying. Yea fuck this show. And fuck anyone who thinks adding extra abuse is feminist.

I don't know if you've ever seen Grimm. It's a police drama series where the protagonist belongs to a lineage that can see supernatural creatures based on the Grimm brothers' tales, so of course there is magic.

At the end of one of the seasons there is a witch who, to get revenge on him, takes the form of his fiancée and sleeps with him to take away his powers. At first the fiancée thinks he cheated on her because she sees the underwear lying around, but even after she finds out she is upset because he "didn't notice" or something like that and She's a little glad he lost his powers because they made their lives difficult.

When to give him back his powers she has to take the image of the witch and sleep with him, the fiancée tells him to keep the light on.It's all framed as her being jealous and getting a little revenge for *his* betrayal.

It's incredibly strange to me when this kind of thing is not recognized as rape and I would hate a plot like that for Daemon or Rhaenyra 😔 At Grimm they framed everything as Juliet thinking that Nick was attracted to the witch (and since he and the witch end up together she ends up being justified) I'm worried that the antis will say something like Daemon wanted it anyway or that the writers did it that way to whitewash him because fans wouldn't accept Daemon cheating on Rhaenyra

In answer to my last post about the image of what some people (including me) think is Alys rivers trying to use some sort of spell or "glamour" on Daemon to get him to sleep with her from today's trailer.

And I don't say its Alys bc I recognize the actress bc I can't see anyone like her in this person above. I see more Helaena than anything, with how the hair is styled. Anyway, that fiancee you're describing sounds terrible, I would have rooted for her demise had I watched that show, metaphorical or literal. And yeah, it's rape. Not like the Criston-Rhaenyra deal (I'm sorry, I had to mention it!) since the compulsion magic implied works against the person's will. I think the Feyd Rautha thing is not exactly rape bc I don't remember the lady using the Voice on him in the movie and in the bk I remember that Feyd was a lot more interested. But correct me if I'm wrong. But yeah, like i mentioned in a pasy alys rivers post, I do not want alys rivers using magic to seduce either Daemon.

If they had kept/decide to keep Aemond as his canonical self--the guy who's murdering babies and old men out of rage--I think people would be more amenable to Alys doing that to try to get him under her influence and survive--not just for herself but for the rest of the survivors of Harrenhal. If they continue to whitewash Aemond, no, they will not esp with Aemond having already been exposed to prostitutes by Aegon at 13 [epi 9].

If it's any consolation to you anon, I don't think it's a DaemonxAlys scene because I don't think Daemon would let her get away with that after the moment even if she had put him to sleep. But idk, these writers...

This is why I don’t believe (at no fault to them) what Emma’s been saying about Rhaenyra being hateful/vengeful in s2. I genuinely hope they prove me wrong, but until I actually see Rhaenyra showing some true rage/disgust towards the Greens (including Alicent), I’m gonna keep assuming she’ll be the frightened, reluctant, eager to take the blame character they’ve marketed her as. Because notice how even though the Greens spilled blood first and started the war, they’ve promoted Rhaenyra as the faulty party “fearing what she’s begun” and Aegon as simply wanting “revenge” for what was done to his son.

I don't habitually listen to actors speak about the show bc I'm just so...not into celebrity or to explore actors outside of the media they play in that I'm already interested in? It's not a nlog syndrome, I have just always kept to myself and I don't tend to care or seek out these things bc they are far less interesting to me than the product itself. Been that way since a child reading the original books of any adaptation. Of course there's always exceptions, but these two aren't for me despite how well Emma breaks down their character.

Aside from all that, I have seen nothing to support the idea of Rhaenyra being particularly vengeful in the trailer either, aside from one picture with her hair out and her seemingly having cried, and this was not her at the beach.

Let's hope we're wrong, because the absurdity needs to end. I'm tired of hearing terrible takes encouraging or just being straight up sexist and illiterate everywhere from tiktok to Twitter (I will never call it X).

exactly my thoughts and position. seeing is believing, and i already saw how they missed the mark on her character before.
