Scrolling through your Snapchat, you watched a few stories to see what you were and also weren’t missing out on. Having seen enough of your friends and their drunk antics, you scrolled further down until you saw he had updated his story.
Your thumb hovered over Daniel’s name, rolling your eyes as you clicked it. A video playing of him, pretty intoxicated, dancing in the street while his friends just laughed at him. A soft smile coming over your lips as a few other funny videos played, but then your smile disappeared at the picture that was now on the screen.
It was Daniel in the backseat of what you’d hoped was an Uber with how drunk he and his friends were. He was cuddling close with his ex whom he’d told you he was done with. And sure, you two weren’t together, so you really couldn’t be mad at him for being with another girl. But you could see where this night was headed. Just like every other night Daniel got drunk like this, he’d surely be at your door within a few hours.
The buzzing of your phone from underneath your pillow woke you as you looked at the time. 3:15 am. Grabbing your phone you weren’t surprised to see Daniel’s photo bright on the screen.
“Hello?”
“Hi, sorry. Did I wake you?” His voice was soft, and you could tell he was smiling on his end.
“Yeah, but it’s not like you haven’t before.”
The line was silent for a minute, he could tell in your voice you weren’t exactly happy he was calling. But he still wanted to see you, and hoped you wouldn’t be opposed.
“Um, can I-”
“The key is under the doormat. Just don’t be too loud.”
Hanging up the phone you slid it back under your pillow, drifting off to sleep once again.
The sound of your door slowly opening briefly scared you, but then you remembered Daniel was coming over. Looking up you made eye contact with him as he took his shirt off, tossing it aside and walking toward your closet.
“What are you looking for?”
“Didn’t I leave clothes here?”
You looked at him slightly confused as you tried to remembered what had happened to them. “Oh, shit they are in the wash. Sorry.” He just smiled as he walked back towards your bed, kicking off his jeans before he climbed under the covers next to you. He tried to get close to you, but you kept your back to him. Hoping he would just understand to let you be. But intoxicated Daniel just couldn’t leave it alone.
“Are you mad? I’m sorry I came over so late, but. I just, I wanted to see you. It’s been a while since we’ve gotten together. I miss you.”
Sitting up you startled him as you couldn’t hold in your anger anymore. “You miss me? While you are out with your friends partying, hanging out with your ex. You miss me? You can come over whenever you know, it doesn’t have to just be after you’re done with your friends and have nothing else to do. It also doesn’t have to be after every time you get drunk and try to hook up with your ex who wants nothing to do with you. Making you remember that I exist.”
Daniel looked at you speechless, the alcohol also making his head a bit fuzzy as he tried to think about what you’d said. “Y/n what are you talking about?”
“I get it okay, we aren’t dating. I don’t even know what we are. But, if you are gonna show interest, then obviously I’m going to assume there is something between us. But then you blow me off all the time, hang out with your ex, who doesn’t want to be with you. You even said it yourself. You only come over when you are drunk and want company so you don’t have to go to sleep alone. I mean have you thought about how that makes me feel?”
Daniel just rubbed your back, not sure what to say. Knowing sorry wouldn’t cut it. “I, you’re right. I guess I haven’t thought about how that makes you feel. I’m sorry. But, it’s late, don’t get too worked up right now. I can go sleep on the couch if you want.”
He moved to get up but you stopped him, though you were mad you were too tired to care if he slept in your bed or not. Just rolling back over as he’d watched until he knew you fell asleep.
Daniel laid awake for what seemed like hours, thinking about what you had said. He didn’t have an explanation for why he only came over drunk, or after his ex turned down his attempts to get close with her. He really did like you, especially after you’d put up with him doing this for so long. By now he thought you would just ignore his calls, but he was glad you hadn’t. Though he knew after tonight, this might be his last chance at fixing things going forward.
Though Daniel told you he was going to change, to stop the drunk calls asking to come over. That he was going to actually spend time with you and try to make up for lost time. You’d yet to see it happen. Not bothering to reach out, you’d done your part for so long, if he wanted to see you or talk to you. He needed to reach out, because at this point you were over trying to keep up with him.
Another night with your phone buzzing under your pillow, Daniel’s photo covering the screen. No surprise. You thought about not answering, but then he’d leave a voicemail, and you’d end up listening to it anyways...
“Hello?”
“Oh, um, hi.” Daniel was a bit taken back by your tone when you answered. “Can I come over?”
“If you’re drunk, don’t bother. I’m done with this shit Daniel. Why don’t you just go home and go to bed, that’s what you need right now. Not to see me.”
Though you told him not to bother, you knew how Daniel could get when he was drunk. Being stubborn he would show up at your door anyways. Only to find you’d removed the spare key from under the doormat. With it being so late you’d hoped that he would know better than to make noise and knock, just send a text to ask you to let him in. Which he surprisingly did.
[Daniel]: Where’s the key?
Opening the door you gave him a bit of a scare, but you were more surprised to see that he wasn’t drunk. Not stumbling over, hair a mess, with a sloppy smile as you’d greeted him. He laughed a bit as he noticed your confusion to him not being drunk.
“I, thought a lot about what you said. And, you’re right. So, I’m coming over, sober, to spend time with you. Not because I don’t want to go to sleep alone, or because my ex turned me down. Because I really do want to see you and be with you.” Daniel stepped inside as his voice got a bit deeper, more sincere as you’d taken a step back. Crossing your arms over your chest, as if still not sure about his words.
“Look, if you’re just doing this because I got upset the other day. And because of what I said, then, just don’t. Save us both the time and just, go. I don’t need you playing with my emotions anymore.”
Without warning Daniel grabbed your waist, pulling you close as his lips crashed against yours. His left hand cupping your cheek as your hands held tight to his shirt. Sure you and Daniel had kissed before, a few of his drunken episodes ended in brief make out sessions between you two. There was no denying that you two had feelings for each other. Your feelings often expressed more than his. But his were there, he just finally decided to act on them.
“This is not only because of what you said. I wouldn’t do that, just show up and do this because you want me to. I needed you to be harsh with me, to make me own up to being an ass. Getting drunk all the time, only showing up when I was lonely. Not that I didn’t want to see you, I just-”
“Daniel, no offense. But just stop talking. I get it.”
The two of you laughed as you grabbed his shirt, pulling him further into your apartment as your lips found his once again. Daniel smirking into the kiss as he grabbed at your legs, picking you up as he carried you to your room.
My first time writing for Wanna One. Sorry if that ending isn’t the best? Though Daniel is of age and everything I still feel weird about writing full on smut for the of age members of Wanna One. So I just kept this one as implied :)
