It’s National Hot Toddy Day!!! Made an extra-special toddy this year featuring brown butter washed bourbon! @davidlebovitz has an excellent tutorial on his blog about how to fat wash bourbon, which is what I followed in order to give my local @woodinvillewhiskeyco bourbon that little something extra. I paired the brown butter bourbon with fresh steeped sage leaves and fresh orange juice for a toddy that is rich, savoury, and chock-full of health. (That’s why you drink a toddy, right? 😉) If sage isn’t the flavour for you, this toddy would also be great with a straight black tea or even plain honeybush for the decaf folks. In desperate need of an herbal hot toddy today! Some mondays are annoying and difficult, and just need some herbal intervention.

3 cups of water 3 lemon slices 2 tbsp of diced fresh ginger 2-¼ in slices of fresh turmeric 1 cinnamon stick Sprinkle of cayenne (optional) 1 shot of whiskey or apple cider vinegar. (Do this at end) 1 tsp honey agave or maple syrup. This will be up on the blog later.

Hot Toddy: 1. Whiskey or Bourbon, Apple Cider or Juice 2. Lemon 3. Whole Cloves 4. Cinnamon Sticks, Nutmeg or Star Anise 6. Honey 7. Tea Bag 8. Red or Ceyenne Pepper Directions: 1. Let the Ceyenne, tea bag and Cinnamon Sticks simmer in a pot of water for 10 minutes 2. Poke the cloves into lemon quarters add to mug with the honey star anise and whiskey burboun or juice 3. Garnish with a mint sprig or cinnamon sticks and enjoy
