🥀 Kiss the receiver as if it is for the very last time (Except it is the last time 😈)
Sleeping was optional like pretty much every other bodily function he had but he liked it. It was comfortable, letting the body do it's little floating thing that it did when he 'slept'. Of course it was only a facsimile of the real thing. Relaxing as it was for the body he constructed, his actual self still moved though lazy as a stream through the dense root system of grasses, but now felt closer to something rushing, something pushing silt out to sea.
Audrey's warmth permeated every pore of his being. Her dense curls fell into her face and got sucked under both of their pillows. Just the other day they had fought about it playfully until he'd held them in one hand and tried to convince her that up was so much better for everyone. At least until he wanted to see them spread across his thighs. Even before that they'd played a ridiculous game at a bar, some perverted form of find the difference until they'd won a couple of free drinks and he'd kissed her shoulder and neck and laughed until his stomach hurt and she'd asked to go home. That's what did it. Home. His place wasn't home, wouldn't ever be to him really. Stuff was there, not all his and not even stuff he liked in some cases. But, he wanted to bring her home, wanted to have a spot he could tuck her into and believe they'd be doing this again tomorrow and tomorrow and so on and so forth until the universe swallowed them whole. Unfortunately he'd had the exact same thought not forty years ago with Kali and, when a wild hair grabbed him, a few others that caught his fancy and it was always the end. Because home was never permanent; not really. He'd come from the original place itself and as above so below. Nothing was meant to last and it hurt too much the first time to go round it again without making the first cut himself.
She was beautiful, and his mouth found her temple and even now he could calculate the exact distance it took to get there before he pulled back and then back further until he was in some nameless town in Illinois and she was still curled up in what was their bed in the sun.
