Behold
The Boye Rests
Fumking B
Got to the house yesterday morning and heard a scritching noise coming from the floor vent in the kitchen. I was terrified it was a wasp. Peeked ever so cautiously and there was Billie! He was stuck in the elbow just below the floor and couldn’t get a grip on anything. While I was out in the garage looking for something to help me get him out of there he disappeared. I wasn’t sure if he had managed to climb out or if he had gone further down (or if he could fall all the way down to the furnace!)
Hubby was very worried about Billie all day. So worried that he stopped by the brick house before heading home with the final ingredients for dinner. Managed to get a picture with his phone that showed Billie about four feet down the vent (on the horizontal run of course) and saw that the vent angles up again at the other end of the horizontal run so no danger of our little bat friend falling into the furnace. He was however afraid that Billie was dead since several phone shots before and after knocking on the vent showed him in the same position.
Went back after dinner and took another picture which proved Billie lived. Hubby took the vent apart, but Billie declined to come out so he let him be for a little in hopes that he’d come out when no one was immediately around. About 30 minutes after I got there to put another coat of paint on the bathroom doors hubby called for me to come help him. He had managed to get Billie out of the vent but hadn’t thought as far as getting him out the door with both hands cupped around a small indignant bat.
When he let him go outside Billie appeared to plummet straight down, much to my husband’s horror, but we never heard him hit the ground and when we grabbed a flashlight we couldn’t see him. Thus ends the saga of Billie. For now. Definitely putting up a bat house or two this year.
Standing here filling chicken water and i can't help but wonder if the bat thinks of our house like the TARDIS. Vent cover looks like opening the bat house on the outside but it's bigger on the inside. Kind of want to paint the outside blue and put police box on the top of it.
Husband thinks the bat is getting into the house through a basement vent. He sent me this text this morning. Now our little bat friend is called Billie.
