I never thought I would get into modding video games. A few years ago, the most experience I had experimenting with modding was downloading mods on my Xbox One for Skyrim. Now that I have a PC, I’ve been enjoying mods like never before. Modding is short for “modify” and it usually refers to alterations talented programmers and designers make to existing games. Mods are an important part of the…
it was my first time modding/running an event but i think it went pretty well (huge shout-out to my co-mods: @midmorning-bomb & @meggie-stardust, as well as all our amazing participants!).
when i was trying to decide if i wanted to take it on, i couldn't really find any info on how to run an event and what all went into it. i decided to dive in anyway, because why not? lol. i ended up stealing a bunch of ideas from @shey-elizabeth & the 2021 Steter Secret Santa, because that was the only event i'd actually participated in at that point (and it was so well done and i had such a blast!).
that being said, i've compiled everything that we used to run this event and will hopefully give people a jumping off point if they want to run an event (for this fandom or for any other fandoms!). feel free to use any of this stuff for your personal use, share it with friends, share it in fandom discords, incorporate into existing events, tweak to suit your purposes, use to start a new event, etc... take what sparks joy, ignore the rest. 😉
feel free to reach out if you have any questions on anything!

Day 11 of the BeelzRog Show 40 episodes celebration & this time I decided to dive in & show you making the modding sausage. This was quite the learning experience & I was made better for it. And, yes, the mod is available.

I make job aids in my day job so I figured, why not use that skill to help folks who want to mod their game but don't know where to start? *Note: This is basic moding on Nexus Mods. Mods hosted elsewhere can be a bit more complex and not covered here.
Step 1: Make an account with Nexus Mods
Step 2: Download Vortex, the Nexus Mod Manager (Used to install, inactivate, enable, and update mods applied to your game. You can also use Vortex to manage your save files)
Step 3: Download the script extender, which varies by game (this link is for Fallout 4). Click and drag the zip file here
Step 4: Select the game you would like to mod
Step 5: Download Mods of interest via Vortex. If there are multiple files, you will need to navigate to the 'files' tab for that mod. If you get a pop-up listing required mods, be sure to download those as well (they're hyperlinked, so just giv'em a click).
Pro Tip: Read the description thoroughly to ensure your expectations are correct.
Analogy: You want a PB&J mod. The mod file itself has PB&J, but it also requires the sliced bread mod to work as intended. To have PB&J, you need the PB&J mod + sliced bread mod.
Step 6: Enable your new mod in Vortex. Check the 'Mods' tab and 'Plugins' tab.
*Note: you CANNOT have the game open at this time. When you are modding, the game cannot be open.
Step 7: Launch the game! Test it out your new mods! Keep an eye out for glitches and pop-ups from the game.
------------------- Game Updates -------------------------------
Updates to the game from Steam may impact mods. Consider turning off automatic updates in Steam. Launching through the script extender application will avoid updates on launch.
Trouble Shooting: If the game breaks, disable any mods you recently added via Vortex, the mod manager.
Reddit and Discord are your friends. If you have a question, you are likely not the first one to ask. And if you are, there's a discord community for that. For example, here is a link to join the AFF mod Fallout Discord.
A mod for Fallout 4 adds to an existing settlement and comes with a bunch of custom textures, items, and assets, including furniture.
Did you ever run into an issue where your game continuously encounters errors and crashes after the invisible underwear mod was installed? I started having that problem every time I tried to use it, with the words "FFXIV has encountered and error" with a billion file names before force shutting itself down? It doesn't do it when the mod isn't active, not sure if anyone else is having that problem though.
I have, especially when patch hit.
I had to reinstall the game due to said errors, I didn’t believe it would be any of the mods. But I had to test each one individually. The underwear one however gave me no issues, another mod that altered an armor’s appearance however did give me that issue.
I feel as though each client has something that makes it tick. That’s a personal opinion and after reinstalling the game twice and did a run of each mod– This one did not cause my errors. But even before I started using mods, I would get that error say for when I log out of the game for the day or it just pops up. It seems like an ongoing issue before I started using textools and has not been addressed by SE for the matter.
