Why is Taylor Sage Evans' Howard hair blonde?

Most likely because it creates a little more contrast between her "natural" (base) color and the hot pink of the ponytail!

Thoughts on Chiara’s Howard wig?

I love it! They’d toyed around with the alt-colored ponytails way back for Breakaway 1.0 but it never actually made it to the stage, so very excited to see it on stage and also a very unexpected surprise for the Australian Tour to get that. But I’ve always thought it was a really cute, fun detail, so I’m really excited about it. I always assumed that they didn’t do it because the alt colors can be difficult to get to work with different hair colors (particularly silver) + because it means the hairpiece can’t be reused for other tracks, but in this case the silver looks great + it seems like they don’t care about the second. So all around I’m quite happy!

Seems like Gabriella Boumford is just using her own hair for Howard so far. I'd expect her wig probably just isn't finished yet, but there's a chance she just continues without a hairpiece.

i doubt cristina would but i mean who knows lol

I’d expect so!! Those are actually both easier to incorporate than silver is, so I’d be surprised if only Chiara has it.

Thoughts on Inez's all-pink ponytail? I don't dislike it but it now looks very obviously fake

It’s not quite all-pink, just very little brown showing.

Like you said, there used to be more natural color at the top of the ponies. Starting with the 23-24 UK Tour cast the natural color got shortened with the ombre starting higher up the pony. Inez Budd's is a reflection of that higher ombre. On top of that, her hair is darker so it blends more with the crown and makes the natural hair color even less visible than on Lou Henry/Izi Maxwell.

Harriet Caplan-Dean's Hairstyles: UK Tour

Hey y'all! Have had a few asks recently about Harriet Caplan-Dean's different wigs and hairstyles. I realized I never actually made a full post about that, so here it is.

She only had two wigs: an Aragon bob and a Howard pony. - The Aragon was used for Aragon. - Her own hair was used for Boleyn, Seymour, and Cleves - The Howard pony was used for both Howard and Parr. This was normal for most non-Black UK Parr covers for a while (post about that here).

Her Parr style was changed a few times mid-run:

Debut and early shows had a bun in the back before going into the Howard pony. By around July 2022 it had switched to a lower ponytail with a poof and single braid on top, using just her hair. From then through the end of the run it stayed mostly the same, although they played around with the exact style of the braid and poof.

Chlöe Hart wore her own Aragon costume and wig.

Harriet Caplan-Dean wore her own silver alt costume (and variations) for Aragon and Parr. Her own hair was used for both roles: for Aragon left down and curled in soft waves, for Parr pulled back into a ponytail similar to Roxanne Couch's.

Leesa Tulley originally wore a band costume with a dark Howard wig for her first emergency cover. I talked about that here and here.

Leesa then came back and did shows as Boleyn, Seymour (in orange alt), and Howard. Those were all her own costumes. For Boleyn she wore her Seymour wig (straightened), Seymour was her usual Seymour wig (curled), and Howard she wore her normal pink wig.

There were a few changes to wig and style:

For Tour Harriet had an Aragon bob, which she didn’t use on the West End. It seems to be in use by Shakira Simpson, which would explain why they didn’t have access to it. Instead she had some soft waves styled by Zoe Louise. (I talked more about her prior wigs here)

Leesa initially wore a dark Howard alt wig before getting her normal pink wig later on.

Leesa had a bob for Boleyn on Tour but instead they used her Seymour wig. Not sure why on that one, may have had damage, not been accessible in time for her debut, or have been dyed for re-use by someone else.

Inspired by an ask on Lightleckrein’s blog but. Do you think there’s a chance for braids Howard to return/go across the pond? Or at the very least a more noticeably different texture

Cause we had two chances in the UK with Ellie and Monique, and with Holli’ on BWay but…

I know you’ve said before about Howard wigs/ponies especially being meant to be easily restyled but with how much variation we’ve been seeing in some of the alts, it feels like it should still be an option :0

It really depends on the country and the person’s specific role in the show (principal vs alt).

I think it's most likely to happen in one of the North American productions, particularly for a principal. That's where they've typically been the most willing to add braids or other cultural elements as appropriate. And you're right that Holli' didn't get braids, but she did have a textured wig.

I think it's possible that it could happen again in the UK for principals or 1st cover alternates. I'd guess it's most likely if the actor themself requests it in their wig/hair design consults (basically a meeting with the designer to try and make a shared vision for what the actor's wig/hair design may look like). As principals/1st cover alts only need those wigs for one role and more attention is usually put into customization for them, I wouldn't say it's off the table.

I don’t see it happening for 2nd/3rd cover alternates or swings in the UK. Those wigs got reused often and, like you referenced, I think they want to maximize potential versatility.
