Breakfast With Friends, And Pine. This one goes out to friends, family, and everyone in New York. I can never have espresso without being suddenly pulled back in: to living in the East Village, back with all our dear friends, who now live so far away. Walks through Little Italy, admiring the percolators in the windows… Getting your own, your own espresso maker you cautiously, like learning to can, breathlessly, anxiously put on the gas stove for the first time… The acorn espresso cups are a long-ago gift from one of my best friends. Barneys may have closed, we may have left, but our friendship, laughter, and virtual Girls Nights, live. The bird is cherished, and keeps me company. You might have heard me rave about the artist, Howard Smith. I have a huge mad crush on him because he is just the coolest: an African-American Jersey guy goes off and ups and moves to FINLAND and becomes a celebrated designer at Arabia!!! Look him up, he is STILL the coolest. I wonder if Howard Smith would crack up, to know his art is living off-grid, in a town population 40... I bet he would. I needed comfort today. Yesterday I picked some new growth on pine. There are all sorts of ways to use certain trees like pine… today, I added some to potatoes, like rosemary. I gathered creasy greens, and sauteed them with lots of garlic and olive oil. From our hens, a soft boiled egg. I sipped espresso, slowly ate, thought about and sent love to the people who have, for a lifetime, given me comfort, the stability of their love, the trust of their word, their acceptance of each of us for exactly who we are, and protection. Everyone lesser falls away. They are always there. . . #PantryFood #Forage #Foraging #HowardSmith #Arabia #ArabiaFinland #ArabiaFinlandVintage #Finland https://www.instagram.com/p/B-M5zfSlASP/?igshid=74gsakmnfw1t
