I’ve started researching therapists here in Oregon because I might actually finally start going to sessions? It’s been years since I’ve left the house unless absolutely necessary (moving, dentist, eye exam) and it’s so difficult for me every time. I never go out just to do anything fun (that’s not hyperbole, I do mean never). Friends/family always have to come to me, etc etc.
Obviously there are a few things that worry me. The cost (average I’m finding is $130/hour). The actually-leaving-the-house-to-go-to-sessions thing. And the fact that if/when the ACA is repealed, having an anxiety disorder documented could be used against me as a pre-existing condition. So the fact that I’m trying to get help may backfire and cost me my health insurance.
But if it works, it would be nice to go out to dinner or a concert or the movie theater without it being a Big Deal (anxiety-wise). And friends of mine who have gone through counseling all speak so highly of their outcomes. Life without panicking every time I have to leave the house would be a glorious life indeed.
It’s just scary getting started. And expensive. And could cost me my health insurance.
