Hi Squash! 🤗 Do you have any fic recs with badass ladies? Without romance preferably.

Hiya nonnie! I don't read a lot of genfic but I got you! They are pretty queer so definitely see if that's your vibe.

Depending on the archetype you like, hope you find something for you! IMO these fics do a great job of looking at the archetype and subverting it in some sense.

The Nurturing Mother - No Room for the Weak by @perverse-idyll. Ever thought about how Eileen raised Snape and the dynamics of their relationship? Take a minute. Think about it. Then go read this fic. Get your mind blown! Actually make sure you have something to cuddle after reading because you are going to need it. The Older Guide - Rosmerta's Special Brew by @lumosatnight. Professors at Hogwarts are amazing of course. But to teach folks about real life we've got Rosmerta. With her special brew. You are totally going to need this recovery after the intense first fic. It's written in a classic 5+1 format but that works brilliantly for this fic.

The Warrior Maiden - A Horse with no name by eldritcher. Can you be a legit BAMF heroine without actually losing your femininity? The Narcissa characterization in this is a masterclass in writing female characters honestly. She is flawed, ruthless, loyal and absolutely lovable. Also really, really beautiful aroace take on the maiden archetype which I love. Definitely have some tissues ready.

The Independent Young Woman - Flipping the Elephant by therealsnape. Mafalda Hopkirk has a ton of angst like a lot of us about life, marriage, what to do about her goals, what her goals should be... she gets a house and it totally changes her life. Sweet and wholesome fic. You are going to love this after the intensity in the previous one!

The Best Friend - Four Christmases by @squibstress. What does it mean to be Snape's friend? What sort of support/help will he accept from a friend? This fic doesn't soften Snape. McGonagall knows exactly the type of friendship/support he needs. But she isn't a pushover type. Zero percent pushover. 100% badass. A rich, intense dessert fic!

And I can’t remember when I started—’ ‘Staring up at the ceiling, or at a mobile,’ he interrupted. ‘Watching the stars move, or the little dangly planets—’ ‘Yes, or for me, there were these see-through curtains that would sort of move in the breeze, but I thought—’ ‘That it wasn’t a breeze, you could just make them move, just stare at them until they ruffled,’ he continued, encouraging her. His stammer had disappeared and the chipped steel edge of his voice had softened like a curve or an arc that led to some place else.

the kids aren't alright by Violettavonviolet (@violettavonviolet) Pairing: Gen, Harry & Hermione & Ron Rating: T Word Count: 5k Harry had no pack, that was a fact. It came right at the bottom of the laundry list of his faults, below being a ‘freak’ and not having parents. Ron is part of the biggest pack in all of Wizarding Britain, it's only to be expected that he gets forgotten about sometimes, he's only Ron after all, not special in any way that counts. Hermione had her parents but had never had real friends before. After an incident with a troll, she finds it's easy to get along with people that actually like you. (Luckily, they find a pack in each other, a friendship that holds strong through all the hardships) Or: The golden trio as they grow into a somewhat (very) codependent pack, because they don't need anybody else

Father Figures and Days of Acclamation by MellarkandArt (@mellarkandart) Pairing: Gen, Severitus Rating: G Word Count: 1k He decided to stop reminding the teachers that he didn’t have any parents to make presents for, too. Instead, he did the projects as he was told, writing Happy Christmas, Happy Mother’s Day, Happy Father’s Day, and signing empty “I love you’s” to people who did not exist for him. He decided not to throw them away like Aunt Petunia had done with his either, and instead saved them like she had with Dudley’s presents. He kept them under the mattress on the cot in his cupboard like he did with all other things that were precious to him, which really didn’t amount to much. Harry often wondered what it would be like to have a parent who treasured his handmade gifts like Aunt Petunia did with Dudley, a parent who didn’t see his presence as a nuisance. Maybe that’s why he kept these things, for the hope that someday, maybe, he’d have someone he could give them to. Someone who would treat them as a keepsake, someone who would treat him like something of value. Maybe someday.

Namesake Necklace by @wiceba [Gen, Harry & Severus, Not Rated, 277k, 13 Works]

Harry and Dudley are attacked one evening, and Snape is called to fix it. A child sized Harry, who looks much more like Lily than James at this age, was not what he was expecting.

I'm not even sure I have the words to describe how much I adore this series. It tackles all the characters in a way that really shows their many dimensions, especially Harry, Severus, and Sirius. I really really love it and I have read it twice. Definitely give it a read!
