Because my heart always goes to a rair pair
That afternoon still lingered fresh in his mind, like oil paint on a canvas of memories.
Hermione had invited Harry to read in silence beside her, away from Hogwarts, away from the glances, the tensions, and the gossip that echoed through the corridors.
At one point, when desire won out, he set his own book down on the grass and watched her in that warm silence.
Her curls bathed in the golden light of the sun, her delicate fingers resting at the edges of the pages, her eyes focused even on the intricacies of the footnotes.
Hermione.
His best friend, Hermione.
A living spirit of pure intellectual charm and innocent beauty that made the rest of the world lose its importance, made his heart warm and time pass.
Hermione then slowly looked up and noticed he had been watching her for longer than he probably realized.
"Everything okay?" she asked, her voice carrying that characteristic concern of hers.
Harry just smiled.
"I think so."
Hermione looked toward the castle reflected on the surface of the Black Lake.
"Hogwarts is beautiful from here, isn't it?"
Harry took a few seconds to answer.
"Yeah..." he said finally, his voice low. "It's beautiful."
He wasn't talking about the castle.
But Hermione didn't need to know that.
At least not yet.
The Love Story Hiding in Plain Sight (And Polyjuice Couldn’t Even Stop It)
The thing about the “bound for life” moment at Bill and Fleur’s wedding is that Rowling accidentally wrote one of the most quietly romantic beats in the entire series and then just… walked away from it. Like she didn’t notice she’d dropped a whole great love story in the corner and stepped over it on her way out.
Because let’s set the scene properly:
Harry isn’t Harry. He’s Polyjuiced into Barney Weasley, this awkward, unfamiliar stranger. There isn’t a single visual cue left of the boy Hermione has known since she was eleven. No scar, no hair, no expression she could possibly recognize.
And still — still — when the wizard officiant says “bound for life,” Hermione’s eyes go straight to him.
Not to Ron. Not to the couple at the altar. Not to the spectacle.
To him. To the person she knows under any disguise, any chaos, any version.
And Harry, wearing someone else’s face, someone else’s bones, meets her gaze back. In that split second they’re not looking at a wedding — they’re looking at each other through an illusion, and somehow the illusion doesn’t matter. It’s almost tender in spite of itself: this tiny, unspoken moment where the truth of who they are to each other slips through a crack in the narrative.
That’s the part people miss. Not the romance — the recognition.
Because what does it say that Hermione can find Harry in a room full of strangers when he’s literally wearing the wrong skin? What does it say that the words “bound for life” make him look instinctively for her?
It says that there was a great love story hiding in the margins. A story Rowling didn’t let herself write.
And honestly, that’s what kind of breaks my heart about it. Not in a dramatic, fanfic way — but in the quiet way, like realizing a photograph captured something the photographer never meant to show. An accidental truth.
Two people recognizing each other even when they shouldn’t. Seeing through disguise. Turning toward each other at the vows of another couple — not out of romance, but out of something older, deeper, almost fated.
We weren’t imagining it. We were just reading the story that was there all along — the story she never let happen.
