whats your sci-fi world?

the HP-7verse (as i like to call it lol) i a sci-fi worldbuilding project I'm doing. Most if it takes place in the early 2500s, after a German deep-space research vessel's Remnant Drive breaks and they crash into the then undiscovered planet that was later named Habitable Planet 7 (HP-7 for short).

Before we get into current HP-7, we must go over it's history. The previous civilization on it about half a million years ago were a foolish people. They used up all their oil & most of their other natural resources, forcing them to fight for what remained. This went nuclear, resulting in all the craters you see on the surface. What few survived the nukes fled to the ocean, as they were a semi-aquatic species with the ability to breathe underwater. This sudden lifestyle change, heavy doses of radiation, and the fact life on HP-7 has 6 DNA bases instead of Earth's 4 (meaning that evolution happens a bit faster on HP-7), forced this species to evolve into the Telchines.

Telchines aren't much different than their ancestors, except for the notable lack of the second pair of arms that most HP-7 life has. Telchine history is long but all you really need to know right now is that they were in their equivalent to the 1980s when Humans first crash landed on their planet. Telchine society as a whole is still going thru major technological whiplash now that they're introduced to all the hyper-futuristic tech of the wider galaxy. They have access to FTL travel, but most Tel still use black & white cameras that were common just a decade back. It's really funny to see. (All art made by @oberorka! Go follow her!)

do telchines have a railway system on their homeplanet?

Many! After the proto-telchine resource war, HP-7 has like, exactly 3 barrels of oil on the ENTIRE planet and very rare coal supplies. Rail is the only real transportation system they've had for a long time until the discovery of ethanol which allowed for things like streetcars. Still, trains are how most telchines travel long distances, as the past 2 centuries have been spent connecting every last town and city by rail. Telchine trains mainly ran on charcoal, and were decently slow but they got the job done. Post-Great War, more trains have switched to either ethanol or electricity, but some charcoal trains are kept around for tradition and historical preservation. There's also The Train, an ancient, still functioning proto-telchine passenger train. It's upkeep is thanks to several tribes of telchine that worship it as an ancient temple. It was a diesel train, but sometime after the proto-telchine resource war it got gutted and turned to a coal/charcoal train by an unknown group. Since then, the telchine tribes that worship it have been feeding it dried wood & charcoal.

10/10 would not want to go to war against the pre-telchines

The Proto-Telchine resource war came about after many years of a cold war (the politics of it long lost to time). All sides of it were prepared to make sure the other never returned.

Modern Telchine estimates state that about 90-95% of their global population was dead within 12 hours of the first nuke launching. Those that fled to fallout shelters ended up staying for years on end as the global climate became unstable & made it impossible for Proto-Telchines to survive on land. Farming? Forget about it. Dust storms would dig up a solid meter of soil every time they blew by.

Many of those that fled to the oceans died of starvation, as the over-fished ocean life had long become weary to them. Still, some survived and slowly warped into the Telchines we know today!

is HP-7 about 1.6 earths big in diameter? (because my estimate for it's size influences the yield estimates pretty strongly)

No, it’s slightly smaller than Earth.
