Being Ava Iron Lung must be so stressful. You are a captain and every person under your command is a tool. A resource. The person inside the sub is not a person, he is simply a tool she can afford to drop into the blood ocean. The amount resources she can do this with are. Dwindling. But it's fine. The convict in the sub is a murderer with blood on his hands and everyone else that's with her outside the sub... (does it count as blood on your hands if every person you've sent down there doesn't count as a person? That's why they are tools. Tools dont stain your hands).
But he is not violent. He is soft spoken, confused, scared. His eyes are huge like a dog's and its difficult to meet them through the bloody porthole. He begs like a child to be let out.
