Hello there, I hope you have a great time! So I was thinking what if Valka went to Berk from time to time only to watch Hiccup, you know to keep an eye on her son, so the question, What if she saw Hiccup on the forbidden friendship scene, the little dance he did, what would her reaction be? I can imagine she would like to talk to him, but maybe she would not for fear.
I actually speculated about that a lot... especially when we only heard of Valka before the movie came out and people were wondering how she even knew it was Hiccup (before the Cloudjumper/scar thing came about). I figured Valka knew who her son was because she visited Berk on and off, hovering, keeping an eye on her child but staying away out of fear.
Obviously, she did not. She had no idea Hiccup befriended dragons (or was capable of it) and had no idea bout Toothless.
Had Valka seen Hiccup befriend Toothless, I think she would have talked to him. Not just then, she would have let it play out, but when Hiccup came back later. Possibly the third or fourth time. I think she’d observe, at first, how he made the prosthetic and helped the dragon fly again... something she couldn’t do. She could only heal and save, but Hiccup could fix. He was so smart and ingenious (and to think she told Stoick that she didn’t want her son in the smithy, fearing he’d be like Gobber. Like every other viking, so knowledgable in hurting dragons...). Eventually, she would approach him. Possibly on that rocky island where Hiccup cooked fish with Toothless and the hoard of Terrors came to visit. Some neutral ground where she could approach him.
Then, that night, his father comes back... and I think it would be an interesting, moral struggle for Hiccup. This would be before Stoick saw the good in dragons and yet Hiccup would still ache to tell his dad about his mother, knowing how her memory still haunts his father. He’d beg his mother to reveal herself to Stoick and she’d refuse. She’d warn him, instead. She’d tell him that ‘We’re different. They’ll never understand us’ and that could have negative influences on the man Hiccup’s meant to become.
This would also give Hiccup a clear idea of what to do when he “wins” dragon training. Of where to go. I think “Romantic flight” could still happen, and he might even mention his mother to Astrid (while wondering if his mother knew about the nest.. .if she had known all along and done nothing to save Berk. He’d start to doubt her)
He might even have an “I saw mom!” to throw at Stoick before he gets disowned. That, I think, is where the real deviation might occur. Because there’s nothing that could make Stoick pause more than bringing up the woman he loves.
