"Can you move?" Marvin asking Jamie
(a small follow up to Juri’s amazing Sound of Silence! [x])
Marvin swam as fast as he could through the dim blue light of the deep grand reef. He swore Jamie must have gotten chased down here. He warped as fast he could, opening portal after portal, hoping to gain speed and find him faster. He halted before he entered another portal to hear a small, cracking scream down in a chasm below, echoing amongst the rocks. Marvin paled and he spurred himself towards the floor.
“Jamie!!” He screamed, swimming as fast as he could, “Jamie hold on i’m coming!!!”
When he reached the bottom he almost barely dodged a blast of heat as it rose from the air vents below. He breathed heavily, scared out of his wits. He shook his head and focused and when he looked down he saw a huge pile of rock debris as well as a flash of yellow electricity. Followed by a nearly silent scream.
“SHIT JAMIE!!” Marvin yelled as he dove and saw his brother crying and yelling, his body spasming with electricity from the trapped crab squid beside him. Marvin felt a white hot anger burn inside him and before he even realized what he was doing the crab squid was split in half by one of his warp gates, half its body transported to some random part of the ocean.
Jamie’s head hit the floor with a soft thump as the electricity died, his eyes opened wide. Marvin had never felt so terrified. He sprang to Jamie’s side and dug and dug until he could free Jamie’s tails. He pulled the boy out of the rubble and carried him a feel feet away, gently slapping his cheek.
“Jamie? Jamie! Shit jamie… C-can you move??” Marvin asked desperately, hoping the cuddlefish would answer. But Jamie was staring at nothing, his breathing loud and wheezing, his skin an ugly patchy red. Marvin swallowed and tried his best not to cry.
“Jamie… just hang on okay?” He passed his hand over Jamie’s eyes and help shut them so the younger brother could rest. Not that it made much of a difference, Jamie was definitely passed out. But it made Marvin feel better for now. Marvin scooped up the small boy and cradled him to his chest and quickly concentrated on opening one last warp gate, thankful he had the energy for one more. Hopefully this would get them close enough to home.
