Baseball!Cas
Yeah, so here! enjoy!
"It’s the first inning folks. The Laurence Bee’s are up by 4 runs!" The announcers voice filled the field.
“Ugh why are you dragging me to this, Isaac?” Grace asked as her best friend Isaac pulled her up the stands.
“Because I actually like baseball, and you drag me to the football games all the time!” he said sitting down, “come on Gracie! Just this once! We are facing our enemies! The Topeka Spartans!!” he said excitedly.
She sighed and sat down next to him. “I don’t even understand this sport…” She muttered under her breath.
Isaac rolled his eyes, “this is much more simple than football!!” he exclaimed. He went on explaining baseball but she wasn’t listening, she was focused on the batter in the batting den.
“who’s that” she asked pointing at him.
“Who’s that?! That’s Castiel Novak!! He is the best player in history at this school! I’m surprised you haven’t seen him around school.” he said tilting his head.
She shrugged. “I don’t focus on baseball players” She watched the guy name Castiel practice batting. She had to admit, he was pretty attractive. He went up to bat and everyone in the stands started stomping cheering, “NOVAK NOVAK NOVAK” She watched as he took a practice swing then tapped home plate twice with his bat. The catcher signaled for a curve ball but the pitcher shook his head. Knuckle ball, and the pitcher nodded.
The pitcher threw the ball. The stands went silent for the second that the ball was flying until Castiel hit the ball straight on, out of the field.
Everyone screamed, “NOVAK NOVAK!!” Grace found herself joining in. Castiel was pretty good at baseball, he would definitely have a future in the sport.
Eight more innings passed, everyone screaming when their friend went to bat or caught a ball.
When the game ended the two friends got up and left the stands. Grace still thinking about Castiel.
The next home game she went again. Not because she liked the game… But because she wanted to see Castiel again. This time she went with Ellery, who agreed that Castiel was very attractive.
“I think he should be a model and just quit school” Ellery said giggling. “I would totally date him, but he doesn’t date sadly” she sighed. “i wonder why”
Grace shrugged, “maybe he just doesn’t like anyone at this school?” she suggested. Ellery nodded in agreement, “maybe”
He was up to bat, they all cheered, Grace being the loudest. The bases were loaded, the pitcher decided to do a low curve ball. once the ball was thrown everyone went “awwe” because they thought that it was a strike, but there was a clash and dust struck the air as Castiel ran. He hit the ball! Everyone cheered again. That hit won them the game.
When the stands cleared Grace waved to Ellery and she headed down the stands to the dugout where the team was getting congratulated. Grace walked over to Castiel and smiled shyly. “Good Job! You’re really good at this!” She said nervously.
Castiel laughed loudly, “Thanks! I don’t know why everyone thought I wouldn’t hit it, I’m amazing, how could I not” He said smirking.
Grace laughed, Castiel was cocky and a bit sassy, but not in a bad way. She nodded, “you should look into getting full rides in college for baseball” she said trying to make conversation.
He grinned, “there are like 20 colleges wanting me. I think I’ll go to Kansas City, though”
His teammates called him over. “oh I have to go. Bye..”
“Grace”
“Bye Grace” He ran to his teammates smiling.
Grace left the dugout smiling.
The next week she went to an away game. She went by herself since no one wanted to go with her. all busy with stuff. That was fine though, that meant she could think about what to say to Castiel without being interrupted. The whole game she just kept watching him laugh and smile with his teammates. His smile was big and bright. his laughter loud and full of emotion.
They were facing a tough team. one they’ve never faced before. it was the last inning, bases loaded, Castiel was up to bat. He hit the ball, he ran. Everyone was cheering when they realized… the ball was caught by the opponents best outfielder. Everyone was dead silent. The opponents school members going insane. The Laurence Bees lost… by one run… everyone was devastated.
Everyone left silently, no one smiling. Grace went to the dugout and sat next to Castiel on the dugout bench. “it’s alright you know” she said after a minute of silence.
“They were all counting on Me” he said sadly.
“it’s one loss… it’s not like it was the last game of the season…” she said reassuringly. “You lost by one run. “it’s not your fault”
Castiel looked at Grace. “not my fault?!” he said angrily. “It was MY ball that got CAUGHT” he said rolling his eyes, “I know you’re trying to help Grace but… you’re not”
Grace got up and nodded, “well sorry. But it isn’t your fault. you couldn’t have controlled if the player caught it or not” she said before walking, “goodbye Castiel, have a good weekend”
The next game Grace went with Ellery again. Who swooned at a player from the opponents team. They sat in their usual spot and watched the game. When Castiel came up to bat it was Grace who started to cheer first. Castiel looked at her and smiled right before he tapped on the home plate. Grace blushed and smiled. Home run!! Everyone cheered and screamed happily. Castiel had regained everyone’s love for him. “he’s amazing!” Grace said to Ellery. “yeah but look at that guy!” she said pointing at the guy who was shortstop. “Oh my gosh Ellery..” Grace giggled.
Grace ran down to the dug out, tapped Castiels shoulder and smiled.
He wrapped his arm around her shoulder and squeezed her, “I thought about what you said!! and we won!!!” he said happily.
Grace blushed and smiled. “You did?” she asked quietly.
He let go of her. “you’re like my good luck charm!!” he grinned at her. “although it could also just be my amazing skills” he said smirking.
She rolled her eyes jokingly, “only two more games of the season right?”
He nodded, “yeah, both home, and you better come. I can’t afford to lose.” he said smiled, “I have to go! see you next week!” he said ruffling her hair and running to his coach.
Grace fixed her hair and smiled the whole drive home.
The next game she decided to bring him something just incase they won. By now Grace knew the game pretty well. She knew the signals, The positions, and the name of the throws.
The team was down by two, 8th inning, The Laurence Bees were fielding. The batter hit the ball and got a home run. down by three. the next two batters got out, but the third hit a out of the park home run. Down by four.
The opponents were hyped up until the batter after that had gotten three strikes.
It was silent with anticipation as the bases loaded. Castiel was up last. like always. Save the best for last.
He swung, GRAND SLAM!!!
Everyone on the stands yelled, “SALAMIIIII” with a mixture of “NOVAK!!” Castiel did a victory run and ran up to Grace in the stands. He kissed her forehead quickly. “My good luck charm!!”
Grace turned red. “I got you something for winning” she said handing him a box.
Castiel opened it. It was a new baseball hat that said “Novak” in big letters on the front.
He grinned. “amazing!! thankyou!!” he put his old one on Graces head and put his new one on. “there, now you have my old one, for being my good luck charm” he winked and said goodbye and thankyou as he walked back down to the dugout showing off his new hat.
Grace felt like fainting or screaming.
The last game of the season. Grace wore Castiels old hat and was prepared to ask Castiel out of they won. She was very nervous, each second felt like a minute.
She replayed what she would say over and over and over.
When people cheered she sat there anxious. When Castiel caught a fly ball She cheered like Crazy. When he was up to bat she smiled at him and he would move his hat down a bit so the sun was out of his eyes before he showed that he was ready.
She was holding on tightly to his old hat when it was the final inning. Castiel looked nervous, he looked up at Grace and gave her a shaky smile. She replied with a big smile and he nodded looking at the pitcher. the ball was thrown, he hit it. it went flying! Everyone was screaming like crazy. Castiel ran as fast as he could. His hat fell off and he grabbed it as he slid to home plate.
Grace cheered loudly running down to Castiel. He grabbed her by the waist, picked her up and twirled her in the air. He put her down, cupped her cheeks and kissed her.
The world stopped spining, their hearts beating rapidly. Everyone whistled and the team screamed “You get her Cas!” Grace blushed as they pulled apart.
“Grace will you go out with me?” he asked smiling.
“I was just about to ask you the same thing” she said grabbing the hat she gave him and putting it on his head. “I will Castiel.” she smiled
