The Diaper Change
I have become a master of the one handed diaper change. Not because I think that this is a particularly useful skill in life, or because it is a goal that I have always strived for, but because it has become a necessity.
I have two boys, one just turned 5, the other is almost 21 months old. And literally, until about 2 months ago we had never had any problems with diaper changes. Sure, we had an occasional overly poop-filled diaper that required four and not two hands, but never had a twisting, turning problem, we put the boys on the changing table, changed their diapers and then went on our merry ways.
Enter Zachary, about 18 months, diaper changing was no longer something that he wanted to participate in, rather it was a battle that he wanted to wage with his mom or dad. It got so bad that we would sometimes put off the diaper change until there was just nothing else we could do. Thank goodness gdiapers are absorbent and hold everything in for a long time:)
I began doing some research trying to figure out how we could all be a little bit happier with our current diaper changing situation. We didn't need a long time, we are quite good at the quick change, but we needed some time.
Enter the hulabye.
I was a little leery at first, really? Strapping my child to the changing pad just to change a diaper, but then I was desperate and so I contacted the good folks at hulabye, asked them about their product, and what their return policy etc was. They graciously offered to send me one to try if I would blog about our experience.
We have had the hulabye for about 2 days. I will blog again in a couple of weeks but let me say right now, I AM A BELIEVER!!! After his bath last night Zachary actually laughed as I put him on the changing table, opened his arms wide and waited for me to strap him. He laid there while I changed his diaper and put his pajama bottoms on. That was all I needed and it was all he was willing to put up with, he squirmed a little letting me know he was ready to get out, so we finished and moved on our merry way. And miraculously he did the same thing for his dad this morning. I don't know if the novelty will wear off, if he will get over it, but right now I am one very thankful mommy, who can once again use both hands to make for a quick change. Thank you hulabye!!!
A second post to come with pics and more in a few weeks time:)
