OKAY STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND READ THIS.

First of all, alpha/alpha sure, but…um, let’s just say some alphas are more alpha than others. And their names in this case are Castiel Novak, cough. Also, IT’S INCREDIBLY WELL-WRITTEN. And good. And hot. And they’re trying so hard to be grown-up and mature and you get all this in-their-heads thinking and feeling contrasted with the unspeakably alluring profound bond in perfect ratio. Also a bunch of excellent snug canon call-outs and hilarious, even brilliant references to real-life personalities (e.g. John Scalzi). Easily now in our top 5 a/b/o fics. And even if you “don’t like omegaverse”—you’ll like this one.

wait I don't understand how dean can be aromantic but in a relationship at the same time? i thought being aromantic was not wanting a romantic relationship or?

i really hope this reply doesn’t sound angry or short i’ve had very little sleep this past day so i can’t tell how this is coming across in the text so imagine that i’m smiling when you read this also have a fantastic night

aromantic orientations don’t really have anything to do with whether or not you want a relationship. i mean some aro people don’t want relationships, but there are plenty of alloromantic people who also don’t want relationships either, y’know? at that point it’s just personal choice.

@pecanpiedean is aro and married (or has been, chandra assist), i’m aro spectrum and in a committed relationship with two other aro spectrum ladies. wanting or not wanting a relationship isn’t what it’s about. 

aromantic just refers to one’s ability to experience romantic love. being that we really don’t, or we feel it in a limited capacity. romantic orientations function much the same way sexual orientations do. asexuals can be in relationships with a partner of any orientation. not having sex doesn’t have anything to do with being romantically involved with someone, or just wanting to be involved period. i’m sure this is doubly true for people on both the aro and ace spectrums.

to speak on myself personally, i just feel love as... love, i guess? i’m not sure how to explain it. the love i have for my brother isn’t any different than the love i have for my girlfriends from the love i have for my dad so on and so forth. the relationship is different, yeah, but the feeling isn’t. if i love someone i love them. there’s no special difference just because the love is for different person. i love my best friend and get as much emotional satisfaction from speaking to her as i do from my girlfriends. 

i don’t really get romance as a concept, honestly. the more i’ve thought about it and thought about how i function emotionally, romance is just very strange. 

i’ve talked about it with a friend who’s demisexual and he said that it’s not really a common thing for a person to have sex and emotion completely divorced from one another. there’s no real tie between romance and sex for me. sex with someone i love is more fun a lot of the time, but it’s not somehow more ~*~*~*~*~real~*~*~*~*~ than having a one night stand. playing a board game with a stranger won’t be the same as playing it with my girlfriends, either. 

so short story long, being aro has nothing to do with one’s desire for a relationship of any kind.
