I drowned myself

Legs in the air,

I fall back into the water.

Last  night I drowned myself.

Last night I deliberately took the long way round home.

I keep piercing these mental wounds  open,

with the sharp lid you left by the bin.

Last night I opened my heart to a stranger,

I drowned myself.

Doubted myself.

I let myself down.

Cold,

the mornings are cold,

take my child to school,

drop her off,

shoes still on,

least that’s a chore that I didn’t have to worry about.

The hostel’s cold,

the streets are cold,

taking the dog with me,

at least he still has a lead, one less thing I didn’t need to worry about.
