Baymax adopts Hiro-Man, imagine if the events of the movie still took place. Baymax being human ALONE would be enough to shake it. But Tadashi isn't there. But what if Hiro got hurt that night? So Baymax still investigates the microbot (found while doing laundry, Wasabi said it couldn't be broken.) and Hiro had secretly followed him? Cue reverse who gave who a heart attack, and Hiro can't move fast yet safely. (So Baymax literally just throws Hiro over his shoulder and RUNS)

Oh my god this is precious and yet VERY SAD.

Baymax would feel like the worst guardian ever. I mean, he’s a pediatrician, he’s supposed to heal kids, not let them get hurt! And yet Hiro gets injured in the fire. He’s in good hands with Baymax, of course, while he recovers, but that doesn’t stop Baymax from feeling horribly guilty about the whole thing, regardless.

Which is why it’s even WORSE when he’s investigating the microbot and Hiro shows up. Hiro shouldn’t even be out of bed, his burns might get infected! He wants to be angry, but he’s too busy running for their lives. Afterward, though, he plans on giving Hiro a stern talking to. Probably the first stern talking to that Baymax has ever managed to give. He’s never been so scared for someone else in his life, but Hiro just seems to bring out the worst (best) in him.

Of course, when Baymax realizes what the microbot and the masked man means, he also gets angry. Someone stole from his kid, someone hurt his kid. He of course goes to the police (and they actually listen to him because hey, an adult is talking), but even still he’s not satisfied. And Hiro did make him that awesome armour that flies...

Hiro catches him trying to put on the armour that night so he could go hunt down the masked man, but instead of thinking Baymax is awesome like his guardian is half-hoping, instead Hiro freaks out, latches onto Baymax’s middle, and begs him not to go. Confused, Baymax stops putting on the armour pieces and hugs Hiro instead. It takes a few minutes for the boy to calm down, but when he does Hiro once again begs Baymax not to go.

When Baymax asks why, Hiro tells him because Baymax is all that Hiro has left. He can’t bear to lose another family member.

THAT manages to get through Baymax’s anger, and immediately he realizes how silly he’s being. He can’t become a superhero and save the day, there are people who’s job it is to fight crime already. And besides, he’s already Hiro’s hero. He doesn’t need to be anything else.

So he takes off the armour, gives Hiro another hug, and the two go upstairs to watch movies and eat popcorn until Hiro feels better.

A week later Professor Callaghan is arrested before he can attack KreiTech based on the information that Baymax and Hiro provided (because hey, the cops actually listened this time). The two hear about it on the news, but otherwise don’t get involved. But that night they celebrate Hiro’s stitches coming out with ice cream sundaes.

It’s a pretty awesome day, all things considered.

Imagine in the Baymax Adopts Hiro AU, Baymax comes home and. Hiro didn't realise it was time for Baymax to come home yet and didn't hear his car because he's listening to music. So Baymax gets to see what Hiro gets up to while he's gone. He's dancing around wearing one of Baymax's shirts as a cape and singing along (badly) to his ipod. (With headphones. ) Then he turns around and sees Baymax and just LEAPS BACK IN SHOCK because he wasn't expecting him to be there. It's hilarious. And adorable.

Baymax Adopts Hiro AU: Imagine someone shows up at their house and is being creepy and Hiro just slips past Baymax to get in between Creepy and Baymax and then. Starts yelling. He's like 2 feet shorter than Baymax. Baymax is scared of Creepy. Hiro is 4 foot 10 of barely restrained protective anger.

I’m combining these two into one scenario because I can and because I had a WONDERFUL idea.

So Baymax comes home from a long day at work, but as he gets out of his car, he’s approached by a man in a suit. The man’s carrying fliers so arguably he’s going door-to-door selling something or talking about something, but unless he’s trying to educate people about dating he doesn’t seem to be doing his job with Baymax. Instead he’s flirting, trying to ask Baymax out, completely missing or ignoring how uncomfortable Baymax is clearly getting. Trying to ignore the guy, Baymax just brushes past him and unlocks his front door, only to open it and see Hiro’s impromptu dance party. He immediately goes from creeped out to very amused, though he manages to hold in his laughter for Hiro’s sake.

At first Hiro is mortified that Baymax saw him like this, let alone a perfect stranger, but then the dude reaches up and lays a hand on Baymax’s arm, and all of his amusement is rapidly replaced by discomfort. And Hiro has seen some pretty nasty stuff as an orphan, and he knows EXACTLY what that expression means. He is no longer mortified. He’s pissed.

So he marches right up to creepy guy and starts tearing into him, using all of the bad language and threats he’s ever picked up from movies he wasn’t supposed to watch but did. And the guy is just staring in shock because here is this wee little child absolutely screaming at him while the much bigger Baymax sort of awkwardly hides behind him, all while wearing a shirt as a cape.

But eventually the guy catches a hint, and slinks off with his tail between his legs. Hiro can’t resist a parting shot though. “And stay away from my dad!” he screams at the retreating man’s back.

After what just happened to him, Baymax should be feeling like this was the worst day of his life. But somehow he can’t shake the warm feeling in his chest, that’s giving him the warm fuzzies.

They go out for dinner that night to celebrate, and Hiro gets to pick the place. Although thankfully he remembers to take the cape off before they leave

Imagine in the Baymax adopting Hiro au, shortly after their test flight, the hospital needs him to work all night. He can't just LEAVE the kid alone though. Luckily for him, Baymax's nephew heard about him. And he'd wanted to meet his new cousin and show him around his collage. Hiro rebels now only when he's near his cousin. But it seems patience is abundant in Baymax's family. (Also yes, Hiro's new cousin was also adopted..)

(I’m not quite sure who Baymax’s nephew is supposed to be based on this, but I’m going to go with Wasabi because they’re both big giant people who are secretly really cuddly. And because Wasabi gently showing Hiro around SFIT, aware of how shy he might be in a new environment is TOO CUTE)

Of course, Hiro becomes really prickly when he’s in a situation he doesn’t like, for example when being dragged around a college campus by a man he barely knows. He sasses Wasabi, whines and complains, tries to sneak off, and even shouts again. But Wasabi just puts up with it (Baymax warned him) and grabs Hiro by the scruff whenever he tries to wander off, and threatens to carry him around like a kitten if he doesn’t behave. Hiro reluctantly stops being such a brat, but he refuses to drop his pout.

But that’s okay because Wasabi has been saving the best for last on their tour of the SFIT campus, and he knows from what Baymax has told him about his cousin that Hiro is going to absolutely LOVE the lab spaces. And sure enough, the second Wasabi leads him through the doors to where the students are all working away at their various projects, Hiro goes from pouting to wide-eyed with wonder in about ten seconds flat. Wasabi tries to hide his smirk, but based on the way Honey Lemon is grinning at him from across the room he’s not succeeding. 

By the end of the night, when Baymax gets home from his long shift at the hospital, he walks in to find Wasabi and Hiro curled up on the couch together, the credits for Star Wars rolling across the TV screen. On the table are a bunch of application forms for SFIT with Hiro’s information filled out.

Baymax just smiles and throws a blanket over the two of them before trudging off to bed to sleep for the next 12 hours, because night shifts SUCK

Imagine in that AU where human Baymax adopts Hiro: he finds out that Hiro's favourite sweet is gummy bears. Whenever he finds Hiro working on something he gives Hiro a few gummy bears. Hiro's confused and asks Baymax why he does that and Baymax is just like. "Thinking hard or concentrating makes people crave sugar because it increases the energy usage of their brains. "

Atta boy Baymax, put that medical degree to work!

At first Hiro is suspicious, because shouldn’t a doctor be AGAINST giving him candy? But then Baymax points out that Hiro is so very underweight that he’s honestly concerned if Hiro’s getting enough calories each day. And besides, one or two gummies every now and again is REALLY nothing to write home about.

Suddenly Hiro feels like he understands why Baymax has been cooking these massive dinners for him every night ever since he was adopted, even though Baymax often comes home hours later than he should have due to needing to work overtime at the hospital, and he’s developing bags under his eyes from lack of sleep. He just really wants to do what’s best for Hiro, and considering he knows health and wellness best, that’s what he’s focusing on.

Touched, even if he would never admit it, the next time Hiro gets his hands on a robotics kit, he starts modifying it to see if he can create some sort of machine to help Baymax around in the kitchen. Because his guardian is trying so hard for him, the least he can do is make a robot that can fry eggs.

I have this headcanon that human!Baymax is 7' tall, endomorphic, and built like a brick outhouse. He can pick Tadashi up with no apparent effort. Imagine him hugging Hiro. You'd barely be able to see Hiro past Bei's arms. Bei would give the best hugs.

He would be like Hagrid. Terrifyingly massive, looks like he could squish you with his thumb, but is secretly the biggest marshmallow softie on the PLANET.

Which a good thing, because if he actually had a temper he’d be absolutely frightening. Instead he gives the best cuddles. What an awesome guy.

Android Hiro AU: At some point all the Hamadas get annoyed with how frequently Hiro gets stuff in his eyes, mostly because his eyes have to then be cleaned out with screen cleaner and they don't always have screen cleaner and sometimes they miss. Bei jokingly suggests just making Hiro cry screen cleaner if something gets in his eye. Two days later Hiro's able to cry. It takes him about 2 seconds to work out how to set it up so he can cry from emotion too. He's in a really good mood that day (1)

(2) and really grateful for everything the other Hamadas have done for him and so Tadashi's just sitting there hopeful as Hiro boots up again and then Hiro just looks at him, grins, and then suddenly he's crying a little. Once Tadashi stops freaking out about the possibility of leaking valves he's happy too because Hiro's so happy.

Awww, that’s absolutely adorable.

Although I can’t help but imagine that later Tadashi goes and whacks Bei upside the head for suggesting something that nearly gave Tadashi a heart attack. Especially when Bei just grins at him like he knew that would happen the whole time.

*squeals happily that asks are open again* Also in any human Baymax au (without Hiro being a robot) I always see him actually legitimately adopting Hiro. Then Hiro trying to avoid his new caretaker. Baymax is so desperate to make Hiro happy again he lets him make the armor. (And yes, this is sadly an Aunt Cass dies au..)

*strikes a pose* Yes they are!

Awww! Imagine though that Baymax has grown up rather isolated, and so he’s very awkward and nervous around people. He has a job working at a children’s hospital though, because he finds it easier to interact with children than adults, and that’s where he meets Hiro (Hiro had run away from his foster family shortly after Aunt Cass had passed away because he was so upset, and he’d been found wandering the streets covered in dirt and bruises and without shoes.). He’s absolutely smitten with the boy, who’s so intelligent and energetic, but so sad and guarded, and he can’t help but feel there’s a connection.

At first Baymax is very nervous about his plan to adopt Hiro, because what does he know about actually raising children? Sure, if Hiro gets sick or hurt, he can patch him up, but the rest of it? Baymax is so awkward, what if he somehow makes Hiro awkward too?

But he can also see that Hiro will never survive in the unstable world of foster care, and so before he really knows what he’s doing, he’s filling out adoption paperwork.

The first few weeks are just as Baymax feared. Hiro is wary of him, and tends to hide in his new room whenever Baymax is home. Hiro likes to shout at Baymax about everything from his long hours at the hospital to buying the wrong kind of cereal (Baymax hadn’t realized that Hiro had a peanut allergy yet, but after that particular event he purged his home of all peanut-containing products). But Baymax, shy, gentle Baymax, could never raise his voice in response, and so he just lets Hiro shout. Eventually Hiro realizes that he’s not going to get Baymax angry at him no matter what he tries, and he ends up resorting to not speaking to his new guardian.

But over time, Baymax watches Hiro and notices Hiro’s obsessive tinkering with anything mechanical that he can get his hands on. Catching on that Hiro might have a talent and a passion for robotics, Baymax starts leaving robotics kits lying around the house. When he gets home from work, they’re always gone from the place he left them, and he can hear the sounds of gears turning in Hiro’s room. Hiro starts speaking to him after that. Small, quiet sentences, but speaking all the same.

It takes time, but the two start to bond. Hiro eventually reveals one rainy evening the story of his parents’ deaths. How the whole family had been out driving on a night just like this, when something had happened and Hiro’s dad had lost control of the car.

How he’d once had an elder brother who perished along with his parents.

He’d stayed with his Aunt until she too had passed from an unexpected illness, and then he’d had no family left. Until Baymax that is.

He tells Baymax that he’s probably never going to call him “dad” or “father” or any of those terms. But, if Baymax is okay with it...he wouldn’t mind calling Baymax “family.”

Baymax just reaches out and pulls Hiro into a hug and tells the boy that he’d like that.

(Although when Hiro starts fitting him with armour a few weeks later, talking about some sort of crazy scheme to make Baymax fly, he can’t help but wonder privately what he’s really gotten himself into)

Avatar AU

The one with the airbernder!Baymax.

Fred is the son of one of the owners of a large business corporation, known as the Kaiju corp. Also offers a safe haven from benders worldwide against the Equalists. A good friend of the previous Avatar gave his father the schematics of the Glove Taser that was once used by the previous Equalists.

Baymax is 23 years old by the time he met Avatar Tadashi who was 20. He and Tadashi got along nicely, to the point where Hiro is jealous of Baymax.

Then one night while they were travelling to see what was the problem in the fire nation. Wasabi and Fred got kidnapped.

Cue Tadashi, Hiro, Baymax, Gogo and Honey finding the kidnapped boys. With the help of Baymax’s spirity powers.

(Oh man, talk about a political crisis.

It’s the WTU who kidnapped Wasabi and Fred, because they think Wasabi is the Avatar. They saw him while he was tinkering with one of Fred’s taser gloves, and they thought he created the resulting lightning on his own. They also took Fred as a way to make Wasabi cooperate.

But that was a big mistake. Fred is the son of a very powerful business man, a friend to all benders, and a member of the true Avatar’s inner circle. As far as the world is concerned, this is not cool. Suddenly people who were neutral about the whole thing are up in arms. The WTU has made a LOT of enemies by kidnapping Fred.

Meanwhile Tadashi and the others are using the confusion as a distraction while they sneak into the fire nation to rescue Fred and Wasabi
