Who is James Maxwell? See a lot of posts about him on your blog- is he your Blorbo?

He is my blorbo, my only real blorbo (as in person I think of in relation to everything and will be very annoying about on the internet at the least encouragement).

There are a whole lot of James Maxwells, but my blorbo is not the Scottish Mathematician or the author or the footballer, he was an Actor in old British telly. I like him a lot.

(I have no explanation for myself.)

He has a good face, though, right? XD

Anyway, he was technically an American, but his family were all actually from Nova Scotia, and he wound up in the UK and worked here as an actor, director, and writer from 1950 until his death in 1995. (He also has some very nice obituaries. I like a man with a nice obit. /o\ /cries)

I like to watch him in things and make gifs of his face, and also find out about him irl because though he seems to have liked to claim he was very Ordinary and Average, he was not!

He was super-brainy but ran away from a career in academia

because he saw Dame Edith Evans on stage in New York one time and then literally within 1-3 days max got himself on a liner to the UK to land up at the Old Vic Theatre School and managed to get a place there.

he helped to found a pretty cool and important theatre in Manchester, which took him and his Old Vic Theatre School friends 25 years but they kept at it till it really happened.

he is now a ghost at the Royal Exchange Theatre that he helped to found and has a tv credit from beyond the grave (if you believe people who make Most Haunted)

He also seems to have taught at drama school in London for a while and additionally helped support quite a few other people in their careers.

Anyway, he was a very good Henry VII for the BBC and he cheers me up a lot when I feel ill (which is almost all the time).

He was in Doctor Who one time, but it was in "Underworld" so understandably he is not much known from that!

he also likes attaching appalling fake hair to his face and also falling over and crying.

When he was in Dracula he got upset about flowers and needed a lot of tea and a blanket to cope

somehow i like this man ridiculously anyway. <3

anyway, this is why most people don't ask me who James Maxwell is any more. XD

Donna looked up at the sign again, asking herself if she was really going to go through with it. It’s not that she didn’t believe that there was such a thing as a “Time Wizard”, not after what happened to her grandfather, but she had difficulty believing that they would live in the dingy front-entrance basement under a closed Tarot shop with no more announcement to their supposedly great powers than a blue neon sign flickering wildly with a faint buzz. The sign read “JOHN SMITH TIME WIZARD” in italic capitals and was no larger than a sheet of A4, hanging in the front window next to the dingy little door.

She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. Wilf was counting on her, and she couldn’t leave even the tackiest stone unturned. As she pressed into the storefront, her nose was filled with the dusty smell of an old bookshop, but what met her eyes looked more like the underside of an automobile pit, with wiring and piping from a hundred unrecognisable machines lining the walls and stacked up like books in a labyrinth across the floor. In the centre of this grimy, thick mess crouched an incongruously tidy-looking man in a tight pinstriped suit. A head of spiky brown hair popped up from behind a stack of what looked for all the world like 80s CPU towers, half-covered by a pair of almost buglike giant round goggles.

“What are you doing here?” the strange man squeaked, sounding almost offended.

“Are you John Smith?” Donna asked, dreading the answer.

“And you’re supposed to be the... the ‘time wizard’?”

“That’s what it says on the door.”

“And does that mean you’re just very good at scheduling, or can you actually help me?”

“Not with your scheduling. I’m terrible at getting where I’m supposed to be.”

“And how about getting other people where they’re supposed to be. Or when?”

“Well, which is it?” he asked, long legs stepping over impossibly high stacks of junk.

“Well, it’s when isn’t it? Or I’d be looking for a private eye and not a time wizard.” She opened her purse and fumbled around past pens and sunblock and a wrench she had no better place to carry than in her purse, before pulling out an old, worn photograph.

“It’s my grandad. Here he is in World War I.” she explained, showing Smith the faded photograph. Smith pulled his goggles onto the top of his head to get a better look at the photo, allowing Donna a better look at him. He looked like the kind of man her friends would insist looked handsome and not like an underfed whippet, despite looking very very much like an underfed whippet.

“You don’t look old enough to have had a grandad in World War I.” 

“I’m not! He’s only in his sixties!” Donna exploded. The wizard looked at Donna as if he had only just noticed she was there. He turned his eyes back to the photograph and blanched.

“Wait... that’s Wilf! I know Wilf!” Smith said suddenly. “I met him in 1917!”

“You don’t look old enough to have been in World War I.”

“Time wizard. Wilf’s a mate of mine, he wouldn’t hurt a fly. What’s he doing in a war?” Smith squawked bouncing around his messy shop. “I’ve got to get him out of there before he hurts himself... or worse,  could end up with no grandkids at all. He loved his grandkids!”

“Which would be bad for me.” said Donna, “Or did you forget I was here, time boy?”

“I’ve got to cast a circle right away and get him out of there.” Smith muttered, running his hand through his hair, which explained why it was standing on end.

“Well, isn’t this just wizard.” Donna grumbled, following Smith into the backroom of the shop.

Character- Pidge from Voltron

I did it again, I totally forgot I queued that post, lol. OKAY, here we go!

favorite thing about them: Her quirkiness (she gets the best one-liners) and pure determination. The girl is B-A.

least favorite thing about them: Lack of sensitivity, she’s very blunt. Which I love, but also sometimes- yikes.

favorite line: (I’m way behind still, so my repertoire is limited…plus I’ve forgotten most of my favorite lines by now, but-) probably “Color-coded, because- what are we, animals?”

brOTP: Either Keith/Pidge or Pidge/Hunk. I love them both equally for different reasons.

OTP: PLANCE ALL DAY, EVERYDAY!

nOTP: …any other arrangement? Idk, I really only ship Pidge with Lance, so I can’t imagine any alternatives that would even work, lol.

random headcanon: She and Matt will watch old sci-fi movies just so they can laugh at the outdated special effects and made-up science jargon together. Nobody else finds it half as funny, but the two of them have a grand ol’ time.

unpopular opinion: Pidge is not opposed to cute/girly stuff. Her style is very laid-back and comfortable, but she actually does like wearing cute dresses or rocking the double pigtail (when her hair was long) every now and then.

Top 5 DW non- companion characters

Okay, I'm going to assume that this also excludes Doctors, or you may just as well have asked me for my top 5 Doctors!

The Rani & the Meddling Monk (you know, New Who, are terrible cowards re. renegade Time Lords. They want the Doctor to be the Godlike Only One [emo TM] and made it hard for themselves, even on top of repeatedly killing Galifrey; it's been 17 years and I haven't seen 1 new renegade Time Lord, only heard tell vaguely of one. They're also cowards for not having these two back; they are def the most fun.)

Ancelyn & Bambera (Honestly, probably should be no. 1. The fact that we never had more of them is a crime.)

Amelia Rumford and also Martha Tyler (Four has the best awesome old ladies)

Ray from Delta and the Bannermen. (Ray = <3 I kind of ship her with Seven. She's probably the only person I do ship with Seven.)

Ander Poul & D84 (deeply formative influences probably at least partly because for ages this was one of only 3 vhs DW stories i owned, and also because David Collings; and D84 generally.)

(My maths is perfectly correct and perfect ok. I'm just cheating outrageously. ;-p)

I also very much like Alec Palmer & Emma Grayling from Hide, Jago & Litefoot, Todd from Kinda, Adam Colby, Cameca, and the Governor of Varos, and a bunch of other people and this would probably have been even harder if I'd looked properly at New Who and Big Finish to remind myself of what I've forgotten, but Classic Who had me covered before I'd started, so I didn't.

(and idk about the Master, but in SOME continuities and some counts, the Master has technically been a companion, so i decided I could legally discount them.)

tl;dr I like minor characters! DW is a great fandom for them.
