Vincent is exactly where he wants to be
Gosh, I love a character that's competent & calculative but also pathetic, anxiety-driven, and most importantly, an unreliable narrator.
HOW CAN A PERSON BE BOTH PATHETIC AND SMART.
I was swimming in AO3 and binge-read entire chapters of murdermedia fanfic "The Rerun" (By corporate_hierophant) in one sitting.
I already saw so many fanarts/fan edits of this fic, heard it's PEAK, and even bookmarked it, but the 100K+ word count scared me.
But on a random midnight, yesterday, I feel motivated to read it, so I did. And boy, it did not disappoint.
I was never THIS IMMERSED ever since I read GSGW/GDCG (my other hyperfixation) for the first time.
Love, LOVE the way the author depicted Vox (Vincent) in this AU, the characterization is faithful to the canon, but also very fleshed out. I am a sucker for depiction of competent & scheming Vox (He typically is, only when Alastor is absent.)
Vincent's failures and painstaking realizations that he is starting from scratch, stripped of every power, victory, and people he had, were so meticulously depicted, making him a flawed human and giving space for his possible character development in the future.
Of course, Vincent here, despite getting the taste of his own medicine and went back to his living years after s2 finale, he still has unresolved and complicated feelings for Alastor.
(Alastor is like a "jammer (jamming system)". Just the mere presence of Alastor in close proximity jams Vox's signals, and his intelligence drastically drops. PATHETIC.)
This fic's original characters are also so good. Original characters here are not just filler characters or just used as a means to put our two MCs together, but have full arcs and scrupulous, convincing narratives. Conversation with the accurate uses of jargon and work lingo colored me surprised as well.
Also, slowburn is SLOWBURNING and I like the pace. Now, this is a proper slowburn with a solid character & narrative building that could work as a sturdy cornerstone.
I wish I could just give my kudos as much as possible. I need to reread this. I wish I had the talent of drawing.
MY WORDS FAIL ME. THIS FIC IS TOO GOOD TO BE REAL.
