Earlier this month, I began a paid internship with Human Impact Partners (HIP), a public health research nonprofit. One of my first projects was to work with a New Orleans-based health professional to write an op-ed in support HB264 in La. that HIP assessed the health and equity impacts of. This bill was heard today and PASSED! It proposes community-based sentencing for parents instead of placing them in mass incarceration, often hundreds of miles from their kids.
