Origin of your blog name?
It is a reference to Lieutenant Worf from "Star Trek"'s TNG and DS9, and to Wharfy, the sea monster cryptid from "Bob's Burgers". When I wrote my first "Bob's Burgers" fic on AO3 I realized it was first fandom I'd felt motivated to do something like that for since 90s Trek, so I thought'd it be cool to do a little combo reference. Then I joined Tumblr and figured it'd make sense to keep the same name that I had on AO3.
I did not realize that people would frequently mistake a lower-case L for a capital i and have difficulty tagging me. Maybe I would've chose something different if I had thought about it, but now it is who I am and I've met some genuine friends through this site, so it seems weird to change it. (That said, my alternative "Bob's Burgers" reference name, which appears to be unused, would by Cyra-yes de Burger-ac.)
What's your one "I will always order "this food?
So, there are two chain restaurants where I always order the same thing. If I am at a Qdoba, I will order the grilled chicken quesadilla. If I am at a Burger King, I will order the original chicken sandwich.
Those places may serve other items but, frankly, I have no desire to learn about them.
What's your over used emoji?
Heart. (I'm typing it because I'm on my computer rather than my phone.) I'm not a huge emoji user and one of the main people I use them with is my mom and I love her. ("Awwww" or "Haw Haw!", either reaction is appropriate.)
What's your current comfort show/movie/ book?
I talk a lot about my show ("Bob's Burgers") and occasionally about movie ("Back to the Future"), so I'll use this to talk about my book, or actually a writer more generally. I love reading the writing of the late Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh when I am feeling stressed or anxious. I find his writing to be like a glass of ice cold water: it pleasantly pulls me back to reality and makes me realize that so much of what stresses me out is, in the big picture, basically nonsense.
What song have you had on repeat this week?
"Krasue" by HummusVacuum.
So, I just learned about this from a post I re-blogged earlier today but I have already listened to it multiple times. It's very short (less than a minute) and exactly my sense of humor.
What's the latest thing you've hyper fixated on?
It probably doesn't quite constitute a hyperfixation, but recently I've surprised myself by getting into the 1990s sitcom "Mad About You" again. I'd watched it when it was new, hadn't thought about it much in two decades, then noticed Hulu had a one-season revival of it that was done in 2019, which I enjoyed enough that now I am rewatching the first season of its original run. Is it an amazing groundbreaking work of genius? No. Is it, at it's best, a pretty damn good sitcom? Yes.
Some things I am particularly enjoying about it: Helen Hunt is a phenomenal actress. I find Paul Reiser's voice weirdly soothing. I think it's the first thing I ever saw Richard Kind in and he subsequently appeared in every comedy thing after that. Murray the dog is cute, chill, and pretty dumb- the perfect dog, 13/10, very good boy.
Also: in the first half of the first season one of the four main characters per the opening credits is Paul's friend Selby played by Tommy Hinkley. He disappears after that and is never referenced again except once years later as a throwaway joke about his disappearance. I love that! I have no headcanons about him. I want no Watsonian or Doylist explanations about his departure. To me it's a great big sign that this is just a doofy old sitcom and you don't need to take it that seriously and that's great. I feel like TV shows (and their fans, creators, and TV critics) take themselves way too seriously today.
What's an oddly specific thing that makes you happy?
I made this really great mushroom and barley stew in my slow cooker last weekend. I used less broth and more mushrooms than the receipe called for and it turned out amazing. It even tastes good reheated in the microwave. Something about the combination of "food I made myself, where I modified the recipe, and it even works as leftovers" fills me with joy.
What smell will always make you happy ?
I have a pretty bad sense of smell, actually, so something has to be kind of strong for me to really notice it. I love going to baseball stadiums and there is a combination of smells I associate with them (peanuts, popcorn, hotdogs, and beer, primarily) that always makes me happy.
What's your phone wallpaper?
My nephew.
Are you a morning person/ night owl /Something else?
If I had my preference, night owl. But like a night owl who mainly uses the night to read and watch TV. BUT, I have had a 9 to 5 job for roughly 15 years and have forced myself to adapt to that. So, I'm like a caged bird that has adapted to its owner's schedule.
If you work what is your work/ profession? Do you like it?
I am an attorney for a labor union. I have been practicing law for over 15 years, always working for unions or in legal aid for poor folks.
Do I like it? If I get started, I'll probably end up writing an essay that I don't think anybody wants to read and I don't really want to write, so I'll just say "it's complicated".
I was thinking about tagging some folks, but they were mostly folks I already tagged in that non-selfie photo game a few days ago, so I'll just make this an "if you're interested, consider yourself tagged!" deal!
Finally listened to the October Playlist from Thomas on Spotify! I wanted to share my thoughts again for this month!
Did anyone else listen to this?
DID ANYONE ELSE GET DARK SIDE VIBES FROM DEMONS BY HAYLEY KIYOKO? 👀💛💚💜🧡🖤
Y'all need to go follow this guy and listen to his music
Absolute banger song I thought Tumblr would appreciate
At 33 and a half, I am going to my first ever music show. The tickets were only 12 bucks so how could I resist?
Anyway, gonna spend the weekend listening to the other two bands playing, since I originally decided on going for HummusVacuum. Should be fun.
