Day 1 🌙 Moon Doing a prompt list for October! Starting off with Mahima, my moon goddess :)
vaguely considering ‘ending’ file log and making use of the series/collections feature on ao3
The Hagley Library is going tropical this Travel Tuesday with these postcards from the Waikiki Aquarium, which were acquired by Pierre S. du Pont and his wife Alice during a 1920 trip to Honolulu, Hawaii.
The humuhumu fish at the lower left is the state fish of the Hawaiian islands. It is also known as a reef triggerfish, but its full name in Hawaiian is humuhumunukunukuapua'a, which translates to “ “trigger fish, nose, nose like a pig”. It also shares this name with a modern gin-based tiki-style cocktail, for those of you that are ready for some pau hana time. These images come from the Hagley Library’s P.S. du Pont photographs (Longwood) collection (Acc. 1969.002). To view more postcards and items from this trip, as well as much more from this collection, click here to visit its page in our Digital Archive.
Gone to the beach~
The reef triggerfish is so fabulously designed that it looks as if an artist painted it, right? It’s also the state fish of Hawaii, where it is known as humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa (humuhumu for short).
