I started playing Hungerwinter by @miapcain and was immediately inspired to paint, here is a portrait of protagonist Ida whom I love already, seems like she filed down her antlers today.

This ended up more Ashcan School than Neue Sachlichkeit but here we are.

I loved HUNGERWINTER a lot. Great characters and there's a deep pathos oozing from every word that the presentation elevates. The art by @miapcain is so striking and has such a unique visual style. Very eager to see what happens to Ida next in Waterhead, she became one of my favorite characters in the short time I've known her.

"It is a new age, today we unleash the energy of the people"

Today's speedpaint, I wanted to try something with colour and movement and also a flimsy pretext to paint @miapcain 's Hedvig from Hungerwinter which let's be honest was the real goal.

This piece was loosely inspired by interwar art like that of George Grosz, with a touch of Otto Dix of a portrait surrounded by smaller contextual details, a liitle influence from the thicker linework of Mexican Muralism (eg. Siqueiros's Portrait of the Bourgeoisie) perhaps with a bit of Lissitzky's Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge in there too. I really need to get better at dynamic abstraction.

Selbst eine Steckrübe hat Geschichte: An einem Ende lila schimmernd, überwiegend  blass-beige und oval geformt, erinnert sie mich an eine Handgranate, zeigt auf jeden Fall schon äußerlich ihr deftiges Gesicht und war lange Zeit als Arme-Leute-Knolle  verschrien. Als ich sie jetzt im Supermarkt-Regal sah, dachte ich daran, dass ich sie noch nie gegessen hatte. Noch nie. Das musste sich ändern.
