Hunter definitely did...care for Caitlin, do not get me wrong. And I do genuinely believe that he believed that he loved her. But I do think it was in the same way he loved being E2 Central City's hero. He loved to be placed onto the pedestal of a hero the same way he loved Caitlin placing him on a pedestal next to her father and Ronnie. He loved that from the beginning of their relationship, he was constantly "saving" her, both from actual physical threats and from her own emotional distress and damage. He loved that she looked up to him and saw the hero that he and his mother saw in his own father before the incident, in the same way he loved that the people of Central City saw his father's War helmet as a symbol of peace and justice.
